Wrong way round, Wendy. Sorry for being such a smartass (me, that is). I AM German, but grew up in the Netherlands. LOL. But to be honest, there's not too much difference.
Wendy, You weren't half wrong with the Netherlands. I grew up there. Til I was 18, I had spent half my life there (all added up). It's a wonderful country and very lovely and open and loving people. Very inclusive, much like here on KP.
I must say, the danger of me actually starting a house clean is EXTREMELY slim - seeing I even hate my weekend chores, and there are not many of those. LOL
Wendy, oh, you crack me up! See, most of the time we don't have the problem with that. We moved around so often we didn't miss anything for too long ever. - Well, we're in this house now for 4 years (finally managed to buy something, and buying here in the UK is more "in" than in Germany where I come from) and I start missing those kinda regular clear-outs - but not enough to actually start one myself. LOL
Hi, Wendy! LOL, no, can't find your UFO here for all the other UFOs are floating about. And Bamboo needles are not too uncommon, either. But I'll keep an eye out for it and send it your way if it turns up. :)
Just checked my conversion table and found that UK and US 7 is the same and translates to 4.5mm.
I know soooo what you mean with the different numbering. That's why I've got a printed out conversion table in each of my knitting pouches (the one I keep my bits and bobs in like yarn needles, row counter, stitch holder, scissors etc). Always prepared, I say. LOL :)
Hope you're doing well, too. I am reading up diligently but don't always comment. So I'm "just" hiding. LOL
Thanks for becoming my friend wendy!!! BTW Your monkey ohotos are AWESoME, i love them!!!! I cant wait to get started on my monkey.... i've got the carmen kit!! :-)
Wendy,
Getting together with other knitters - or even other fiber type people - is such a great joy. Our guild only meets once a month, but since August I have found other occasions in between the meetings and just loved each one. Getting together with Carol was fun for the same reason... we already knew we had a lot in common, so the rest was easy.
My husband and I have only been married 10 years. Our first five years were just us (all our children are grown and long gone)... then we had 2 1/2 years of taking care of his mom, and that was a bit of a strain, but we handled it in high fashion. Now it's just us again, and we love every minute we can spend together. Today we had some errands to run, eye dr. etc. and had the whole day out with just us... and it was great! I think they are a bit overwhelming when they finally get us to themselves... but it's just because they love us.
I'd just about bet that if you went up to a size 7 or 8 needle that you would get gauge. The Andean Silk is worsted weight, but with the silk it is a really slick yarn. I've found that using the needle called for on the yarn is usually the best way to go. My yarn called for sixe 6 - 8... I tried 7s, and it didn't work... then I went up to an 8 and it is perfect.
I hope all of this helps... talk to you later. Susan
Wendy,
Carol and I had a wonderful time! We laughed and really enjoyed getting to know each other. Wish all of my KP friends could have been there.
I have the same problem with my DH, I have finally told him when it is imperative that I keep track of what I am doing, and he watches TV or something. The cast on does have to be stretchy, was the cable cast on not stretchy enough? I didn't have this trouble. I know that I did a gauge swatch, but forgot to make notes about it.
I used Andean Silk yarn and a size US 8 needle. My finished cowl is 30" wide and 10" tall.
If the gauge is 4-6 sts on US 6-8 needles, and you were getting 5 sts on size 6 needles, you should have gone up a size to a 7 or 8 to get the 4-6 stitches per inch. Maybe I'm just a looser knitter.
When you are knitting something in the round, it is a good idea to swatch in the round to see what your gauge will be
I have knit several hats in the round, and the stitch count is usually about 80 - 88 for a hat in worsted weight yarn and a US 8 needle. With 120 stitches to work with, this should be plenty big enough. Hope my comments are helping. --Susan
Wendy,
No thanks needed - what are friends for? Did you tell me what yarn you are usuing? Color? for the Noble Cowl. It really is a nice little pattern. Some days we all talked so much - you will be shocked! How we got any knitting done is beyond me. Talk to you later! --S
Wendy,
Definitely be sure you have everything you need with you before you leave!
Thanks for thinking of me. A Kitchen-Aid mixer is a good trade off for a breadmaker... it won't bake the bread, but it will definitely cut down on the mixing time, and do a better job than you could do my hand. We switched to a smaller coffee pot a few months ago. Our big one just stopped working, and I stopped drinking coffee before I retired. My DH never drinks more than 2 cups in the morning, so a 4 cup pot is perfect. I have a little 4 cup tea pot that a friend gave me, and we are both satisfied. Your Oatmeal bread sounds delicious. I love to bake bread - fresh, hot bread - nothing is better.
I hope you enjoy your little vacation. Have fun with the Noble Cowl. Susan
If you can do the knitted cast on the cabled cast on will be a breeze.
You will love the Noble Cow. - not difficult - be sure to use markers between the pattern repeats - it will help a lot! --S
