Hi sgthomson: I am terrible when it comes to using this website. Cannot find your comments on what type yarn you ordered from Jimmy Bean, i wanted to check it out. It seems there are several places where comments are stored. It is beyond me at this point. Anyway tell me again. O.K. The GSs are your?? I have a GS, he is a grandson and happily for his mother returns to school next week. When he is spending the day with me, doinng crafts , mine that is, anything that requires concentration is out of the question. Especially knitting. If I tempt it I usually wind up frogging it that nite. Hope you get this and your GS returns to school real soon.Happy Knitting.
Thank you Bonnie for the info. I plan to check them out. Didn't get to do any crafts today as there were too many problems with my oldest GS. I love both GS but I'm ready for the oldest to return to school. Happy knitting!
Sgthompson, I know what you mean about too many WIP. I am finding out I have a lot of half knitted projects right now and am trying to use up the yarn I already have in my stash. Plus (this spring I was given my neightbor's mother's yarn collection, she went into an assisted living facility and had given up knitting but had a lot of different types of yarn ) The yarn is so old, but good, however most of it is no longer made making it difficult to find out details, like patterns. I have bought yarn from Hobby Lobby, Lion Brand and Peaches and Cream, if you have a store coupon it helps a lot with the cost. I have bought yarn from Patternworks.com, people great ,they have a great catalog they will send you, also ordered from Kaleidoscope (www.kyarn.com) Also Knit pics people are great, currently using gloss which is for my first lace project . I think next time I orderfrom knit pics I am going to order their color sample cards to get an idea of what the yarn is like. It is always a problem ordering on line since you do not get to "see and touch" the yarn. Have fun knitting, think I will work on my shawl tonight but not before checking out Jimmy Beans web site. Happy knitting
Hi sgthompson, I'm not computer smart either. I get confused with where I am to comment back, but I'll try this "comment thread". Anyway thanks for the info on cashmere blend. Let me know how you like the yarn you ordered., that may be what I would like to knit my next shawl. I learned how to knit many years ago but some how or other got away from knitting.. About 3 yrs ago I took it up again, having to reteach myself, and had such a good time knitting that I been knitting since, (scarfs, and socks). I am to scared to try anything that requires the garment to fit properly.. ( I too am still learning, especially the lace knitting). That's why I thought the shawl was a good option to a sweater. Hope your new yarn is all you want it to be . Let me know. Have fun knitting.
hi sgthompson: welcome to the group. I just joined a month ago. I never knitted lace and have found this group really helpful. I do not know how to go about substituting a different yarn for what the pattern calls for, but would like to. I do know that your local yarn shop will help you, and I believe that Alison at knit picks will also. She was a big help to me in picking out yarn for my first projectl. I would love to work in cashmere, it would be so soft. I think that cashmere is really expensive and since I am just a beginner thought I would stick with a more inexpensive yarn. Perhaps there is a nice substitute. If you find one let me know. Happy knitting.
