Yes, knitting is so soothing! I've read & enjoyed all the Blossom Street books. Have you read The Friday Night Knitting Club, Family Tree, or any of the knitting mysteries?

Just saying Hi! from Oceanside. I'm hiding from the Pendleton fire smoke - good excuse to stay home and knit!

Hi Jamie,

I would recommend that you visit the Socks for Soldiers group in Yahoo. Kim has everything organized there including starter kits.

Another site that is fun is the Cafe Press Socks for Soldiers store. I bought a white hooded sweatshirt with Give Me Twenty on it. I wear it every morning over my pajamas when I take Xena outside. And, it is often the first thing I grab to wear when I get home after a long day at work.

I'm an advanced beginner - sloppy intermediate, that's how I classify my skiing too : ) I've known how to knit (& ski) for a long time but didn't attempt many challenging projects. This year, if I like it, I'll try to learn how to knit it - what could happen? I can't break a leg! : )

Hi JamieLynne,

That's an neat trick--switching needle sizes back and forth. I remembered a handy online resource today that sounds like exactly what you're looking for. Check it out:

Have a great day!

Hi JamieLynne,

That's a good question about how much yardage you need for a project. I assume that you're talking about projects where you're just making up the pattern, rather than following one already written. There's no quick calculation that you can do to figure it out because it's really going to depend heavily on your stitch pattern (certain stitches use more yarn than others). What I like to do is find a pre-written pattern that is a similar size and uses the same weight yarn and look at their yarn requirements (and then add an extra ball just in case). I hope that helps!

Vista isn't too far away. I just joined this community as an addition to ravelry. I just have to hear everyone chatting about KP yarns. My current cart is growing :)

About Me:
Knitting slightly more than a year; already hating the fact that I only have two hands, and at best about 15 hours per week, for knitting --! Haven't tried anything beyond scarves & afghans, but am selling those -- and the baby in the photo isn't mine, but I made the blanket, and holding her, wrapped in my love, was such an incredible rush --!!!!!!!
