Hello, all -- This is my first time joining a KAL, and using this sort of networking software. I'm sure I'll make mistakes, so please help straighten me out when I do! But I'm looking forward to giving this a try!
I learned to knit from my mother, back when I was in grade school. That's roughly 40 years ago, now. I put knitting aside for a long time -- did lots of other crafts -- and took it up again a few years ago. I've made lots of hats and scarves, and some fingerless gloves. Now I'm trying to get up the courage to try this sweater.

Oh you so need to go. My father was born in Finland, and immigrated with his parents at the age of 4. In college I took a great summer course over there for people of Finnish heritage that were born outside of the country on the Finnish language and culture. I am in love with Finland, and have been twice myself. Hoping to go back next summer. I always have a free place to stay there and I just love it to pieces.

I've had to put all my other knitting on hold, just realized that one of my nephew's turns 6 at the end of the month. I'm frantically knitting every possible moment to make an afghan for his bed. I made blankets for all my boys, who are all over 6'0", big enough that they can cover their heads and feet at the same time and wide enough that you could fit several of them under it. They love it! Their blankets are on their beds unless there's a movie or something that needs to be watched, then they bring them downstairs. I've made afghans for my brothers, and sister and my mom, figure it's time to start on the nieces and nephews. The ones I made for everyone else were crocheted, as it was before I could knit. I tried to crochet this one, but found that it just caused even more pain in my right hand, wrist and arm. (Just found out I have rheumatoid arthritis) So I'm knitting this one, and just hope I get it done in time. If I'm a few days late I can blame it on the post office, he lives in Maine. lol
I'm sorry to say they all died, about a week after they were born. I'm not sure what was wrong, but I had of course been checking on them and earlier that day they had seemed fine, moving around the box and bumping into each other, and when I checked on them that last time they were all huddled together in a corner of their box. The darker gray kitty was already dead and starting to stiffen, the lighter gray was dead, but still warm, and the little orange died in my hands. I wish I knew what happened. They had seemed so healthy, the poor mama kitty was just pitiful, trying to find her babies and going around the house calling for them. She was really sad for several days before she started to come out of it. (I don't care what some people say, animals feel these things, too.) She's better now, and even plays with the toys that litter the floors in my house. We buried the babies in the same box outside under my lilac tree. Thought that would be a good place for them to be.
Hi! It's been awhile since our conversation, but I thought you might be interested to know I sent a suggestion to Knit Picks asking that they include the size ranges in their descriptions of pattern books. It's so frustrating to buy a book then find out the sizes are just a bit too small. I thought that if others sent a similar suggestion, maybe they would really consider the idea. What do you think?
Thanks for the pattern tips, always looking for more patterns that are either the extended sizes or easily adaptable. Oh, and I was also hoping for cobwebs, etc on Mr. Kings gates, but what you may not be able to see in the picture is that there are winged gargoyles on the gates and fence. Really cool! The gate I'm standing in front of in my avitar is also at Mr. Kings house. My sister lives near Bangor and she says it's not uncommon to see him walking around Bangor, stopping in bookstores or whatever. We also had to drive past his (rock) radio station on our way into and out of Bangor. It was all just way to cool! The only thing that would have made it better would be to run into him at the Walmart!
Hi finngirl, I saw your comments on Kim's blog and thought you might enjoy some books I just discovered. You may already know about them, but I recently discovered these books and I think you would like them. They are Big Girl Knits and More Big Girl Knits. Love these books. They are so helpful in showing you how to flatter your figure and have patterns in the extended sizes. All the patterns go up to 3X and quite a few go up to 4 and 5X. But what I really like is that they aren't just tents, they are actually very stylish!
Take care and have a great week!
