I'm thinking about knitting my first coat and discovered EZ's pattern for Aran Coat in Knitting Around. Has anyone worked with this pattern before? I've made tons of socks, several sweaters but never an Aran Coat. I'd love some feedback or alternative suggestions. Many thanks-- I love this community.
Hi Diane,
Unfortunately, I ended up dropping "Socks for Soldiers". I did order one of their sock kits, which was a good idea because you got to see the kind of yarn they use and some extra goodies. I work part-time, go to school part-time, and there wasn't a lot of time left for me to do much knitting. The woman who runs "Socks for Soldiers" has a son in the Air Force and is very determined to get things done in a timely fashion. I was a bit too slow for her and felt a lot of pressure to perform and get the socks done within a month. Not difficult if you have the time or know how to knit socks but I didn't have either going for me, so I requested to be dropped from the group. I believe this is a very reputable group. Kelley Petkun, belongs to "Socks for Soldiers". I know that she has knitted some socks for them. I would send her an email and get her take on it. She does answer her emails. I've emailed her a few times and she is pretty prompt with her responses, unless she is away.

I hope this helps. I wish you the best of luck!
