About Me:
My aunt taught me to knit when I was ten years old. I've knitted off and on since then, but have never felt competent enough to do anything more than a hat or a simple scarf. Recently I have become interested in knitting again. I finished my first pair of socks last month and have another pair started. If I could just get good enough to not drop stitches I'd feel like I was really progressing.

Lace Knitting or All Tied Up in Knots

Okay, I'm determined to learn lace knitting. I've been wanting to do that for a while. This week with the 100+ temperatures outside and the 40- temperatures in the office I've decided that I need a shawl that I can keep at the office to throw over my shoulders when the air starts blowing down on my neck and shoulders. Something light weight like a lace knit shawl would be perfect. With that in mind I decided that it was time to actually sit down and learn to knit lace. I figured if I just applie… Continue

LOL! I've been thinking the same thing about the picture! LOL! I am so profoundly un-photogenic though, that I fear posting a pix would scare people off! [giggle] (The other possibility, I suppose, is that I really do LOOK like my photo! Yikes!) LOL! I'm thinking about getting dolled up and asking my daughter and husband to watch for candid opportunities to take "head shots" of me... candid seems to be the only way to get anything I'd consider posting for all the world to see. [giggle]

I have considered putting up a cropped photo of something else, though... something representative from my life. Maybe one of my granddaughter, [who also lives with me, along with her mom and dad], the love of my life or of my puppy that we had to put down last April... the other love of my life. He was 13 years old and even my husband [the OTHER love of my life] had said it might be harder for me to lose that dog than if HE died! LOL! It wasn't... but close. LOL!

I mean the little knitting sheep is cute enough, but my brain turns it into a little old lady too! It should be pretty easy to post a pix. Choose one you'd like to post, go to your profile here and click on "My Photo." That should bring up a box asking you to find the photo you want to post. Find that picture on your computer where ever it is and click on that to highlight it. Then click on the "Post" button... done. It'll be something close to that... I've not done it at this site but that's usually how that sort of thing works... its not unlike adding an attachment to an email, only you'll be finding a photo instead of a document. :-)

I'm not concerned about the "off topic" chats... its just that it mostly seems to be the two of us most of the time. I felt better that the little chat you just had with the new [to us] lady, Debbie NW Ohio, was equally "off topic." :-)

True, part of the additional chatter is to help "fill the space" because the project isn't moving just yet... but I hope it won't become "sterile" chatter once we are moving on that. :-)

I just discovered the "friend" thing the other day too... wasn't sure how it worked. Thought it was for inviting other knitters in my life to join the KnitPicks Community, but I don't know anyone else who actively knits or crochets. My daughter used to, for a really short time. She's getting a little tempted to try it again since they moved in with us last April, but so far has not given in to the temptation. My mother-in-law, who also lives with us, used to both knit and crochet but gave up both due to arthritis years ago. You'd think she'd be a resource, wouldn't you. :-( But she's always making cracks about my dropped stitches or off-pattern errors, so I don't even show her anything I'm working on, and rarely show her anything I've completed anymore. Really don't need anyone else negatively critiquing my work... I do that pretty well all by myself! LOL! If you aren't interested in helping, I'd really you just keep it to yourself. :-\

I am disappointed my order didn't get processed yesterday, so that will add three days to when I might have gotten started. I should have known, with my luck, that the one thing I was waiting for to place my order wouldn't actually be available on the date they said and gone ahead and ordered the other things earlier in the week. I could have easily picked up some bamboo DPNs any number of places. But I've been wanting to try out the new Harmony needles anyway, so this will be a good opportunity, and if I decide I don't care for them, I can always pop over somewhere and pick up bamboo/wood ones almost anywhere. I'm just thinking the bamboo/wood ones would be the least slickery and therefore easier to "herd." LOL!

I am also hoping more people who may be still working on the project from before are pulled back in with the "new blood." :-) I'm happy enough with a little group, but "the more the merrier."

Well, this little teeny Comment box that doesn't show your reply unless I open a second webpage to flip back and forth to, and only five lines of text [oh! just noticed I can expand the box!], will ensure I'm not posting like this here all that often. LOL! Do you know if there is a non-public way to exchange regular email addresses for more "off topic" chats? Maybe that little icon over there with the envelope "Send a Message" means we can send emails directly to just each other if we like? I'll be trying that soon, cuz I tend to be chatty and find this very confining. [Although I don't expect long responses from others... I'm just a really fast typer and can say a lot quickly so tend to write more than most. :-)

At any rate, glad you accepted my invite... and looking forward to more "knit and bitch" sessions! LOL! I agree... it does feel more personal with the additional info, not just knit-specific chatter. But, I also don't want to create anything that might appear to feel like a "clique" for others, because I know that can be intimidating and off-putting and the forum isn't the place for that. The more it stays on point the more open and welcoming it feels to people coming in...

I've enjoyed our little semi-off-topic chats and am looking forward to sharing our first sweater experience together! Hopefully, we'll share more knitting experiences in time. :-)
