- I started knitting as a freshman in college in 1950 because everybody was doing it. Put that piece (unfinished) away while I had a family and taught high school and didn't start back until a year ago. Consider myself a novice. Now working on my first sweater, have knitted 2 pr. of socks, numerous scarves and hats. It is so relaxing. Plan to keep going. Now knitting for a great grandchild.
