I'm a 43 year old single mother of three (mostly) grown boys, ages 23, 19 & 17. I'm currently on the injured reserve list because of complications from a series of surgeries, but on a positive note, this has given me a chance to learn to knit. I've wanted to learn for a long time, but just never got around to it. I used to think that crocheting was easier, but have to admit that my addiction to knitting has grown steadily over the past few months. Besides, crocheting makes my hands hurt more. I've recently been diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis and for some reason, at least for now, knitting helps loosen up my hands. (Unless I push it too far.)
Oh, I am so sorry about the kittens! What a shame. Maybe they caught something and didn't have the resistance to shake it off. You're right, animals do feel these losses, just like we do. My family always had cats, and we saw our share of tragedies, so I know what you're talking about. Pet poor mama kitty for me, and give her my sympathy.
On a lighter note, what are you knitting now? I'm still toiling away on my Seed Stitch Jacket for the Knitting Goes Large KAL. Whoever thought using DK weight yarn for large size sweaters was a good idea should have to knit a couple of miles of it! For breathers, I'm knitting a few preemie hats. I'm also working on a Christmas ornament design for the annual Christmas In July workshop at my Embroiderer's Guild. It's kind of gaudy, with sequins and spangles!
That sounds like a great idea! I'll send them an e-mail tomorrow with a similar request. I think I'll also ask them to write their in-house patterns in larger sizes -- like 5X!
Thanks much for the suggestion. How are the kittens?
I was very impressed with this part of our state. Mt. Vernon was very pristine... compared to many small towns I have visited. Our hostesses described their summer house as a fishing shanty... not quite! I live in the southern part of the state, and I felt like I had gone back in time... back when people cared about how things around them appear to others. We had a wonderful weekend... Please check out my blog post for today.
That is cool, to see Stephen King's house. But it doesn't have any skeletons, or cobwebs, outside! (big grin)
I also enjoyed seeing your cats -- they looked so comfy and cuddly all huddled up together. I just wanted to pat all of them. Guess you'll have to do it for me!
While we're trading book suggestions... did you know that Paton's and Bernat yarns have started writing all their women's patterns up to size 5X? Paton's has a series of pattern books called First Steps, and book 2 is Create Your Own Pulloever. Book 3 is Create Your Own Cardigan. If you go to http://www.patonsyarns.com/ and click on Our Patterns, you can see all their books and all the patterns in each book. So helpful! (They also have tons of free patterns on their website.) Anyway, I figure that with the Create Your Own books I can adapt the patterns in Knitting Goes Large to my size.
Sheila, thank you so much for taking the time to recommend the Big Girl Knits books! That's very kind of you. It happens that I have both of them, but I haven't yet studied their advice -- just looked at all the gorgeous knits!
My DH bought the first book for me when it came out. He works in a bookstore -- employee discount, woohoo! -- and asked me if I was interested in it. Then when they published the sequel I bought it automatically.
I love your slide show. What great pictures! Thanks again for your comment.

Lovely cats. They are always so precious when they are that little.
I was very close to where you live this weekend. Our Fiber Guild had its retreat at Apple Valley just down the road from Danville.
