I have been knitting for as long as I can remember being taught by my great-grandmother, grandmother, and mother. I have taught myself to read patterns as well as more than the basic knitting. I started some lace this past summer. I teach classes and have also written a few patterns. I have also been known to do a pattern and change it to do another way. There are times when one project can lead to something totally new and different.

I can't type much till this pinched nerve of mine heals, but I, too, love making socks (portable and fairly quickly finished, and warm for Iowa winters), and have just started knitting lace, which I find I love.
Renee- here is another website to make you drool: well, this page especially:
http://www.yarnover.net/patterns/doilies/kunststrik/index.html Hope that will link correctly. I couldn't get it to link right. But that is the addres... They are free doily patterns. I haven't made any of them, yet, but I plan to. Where in the Midwest are you? I live in Northeast Kansas. Do you do colorwork? They are releasing the first part of a mystery knit-a-long just this afternoon if you want to join. You can read about it here (if you haven't already!):

Renee, Thanks for the information on the Amana Colony Iowa. I was totally unaware of its existance, after reading your comment on the blog, I did a little research. Very interesting and informative piece of our history.
