Hi, I'm happy to have you as a friend. I have been knitting for more than 45 years and socks for about 7 years now. I sure don't have a count of how many I've made but I love making them. I dye most of my yarn so my socks are one of a kind for the most part. I figured out my own way to dye the yarn for stripes and know just how they will look when they're done. I knit a mock up in scrap yarn to know where to place the dye markers. I dye my solids also since I like to have something different than anyone else. Just keep knitting, it's such a wonderful pastime. Thanks for adding me as a friend.

Thanks! Katie is a wonderful baby! She is always in a pleasant mood. The dress was super easy. The skirt pattern is a simple zig-zag eyelet. From the top down on circs. #2(3mm)I used the Harmony needles because they look so neat against the yellow yarn: Shine Sport: Butter from Knit Picks. Machine wash and dry to boot!

Finished my knitalong socks! Now I am back on the yarn I bought last MAY (2007) when I first decided to knit socks. They are going much more easily after a year and a half working on socks, one pair after another. I think I have it at last.

What a wonderful field trip. My less than $10 yarn swift works great -- I feel so smug about it. Yes, the 0's may be bit smaller than I need, but I figure once I have done these, then any size larger will be easier and easier! I need to get some soft white wool for my socks in the knitalong. What class?? I am sure you told me, but I have forgotten. Yes, we are very lucky.

Wow Liz, those are tiny needles. I start my class this Fri. Just came back from Nashville, Ind. Had a good time. Was able to go up to Sheep Street. It's a sheep farm up in Martinsville, Ind. Bought some sock yarn & some yarn that was spun on a drop spindle by women from Chili. They go behind the camels & pick up the wool. Also they pluck the wool off the camels. The women live in huts with dirt floors. How lucky we are!!!

Hi Liz, I haven't heard from u in awhile. Went to the Alpaca Show this past Sunday. It was alot of fun. Purchased some fiber. Going to learn to spin. how are your projects coming along. Finished my socks on 2 circulars. They went so fast. Casting on sock #2 of JeanTownsend pattern. The pattern is cute.

I am impressed -- a mirror. Now that is brilliant! Wish Mom had done that, but I don't think she thought of it. You managed to reverse the reversal.

About Me:
I am a resolute knitter and reader. When I feel my confidence flag, I read Elizabeth Zimmerman or one of the Knit and ***** books and recharge my knitting batteries. Kelly's podcasts are another source of strength for me, AND I can listen to them as I knit. A double plus!

Socks #4

And again I find myself, at last, moving down the foot. Have been told I cannot bring my knitting to work anymore, so my breaks and lunch hour are once again total boredom, but my socks continue at home. I have discovered that 16 inch circulars are too short for this, but that the #1's are the perfect size. I really want to do knitted animals --anyone have a pattern to suggest when I finish these socks? By the way, this is the yarn I bought a year and a half ago with great enthusiasm when I thought I would teach myself socks. It is a little short since it is the ripped out, torn up, cried over yarn from my first attempts. If it runs out before I get to the toes, I will just add a solid color for the rest. Getting these socks off the needles will be a victory for me, though. That I finally (sort of) mastered the sock thing. With so many goof-ups and unfinished symphonies, this will give me a good sense of accomplishment, I think.

Knitalong Socks

Finally I am traveling down the foot of my third pair of socks -- the ones for the knitalong here on Knitpicks. I am using my first set of Knitpicks circular needles (the metal ones) and I am loving them. The tips are just perfect! What I am wondering, though, is how many pairs of socks it will be before I get through the heel flap, heel turn, and gussets without making numerous mistakes and having to take the socks off onto extra needles and put them back on my main needles again and again. The… Continue

At last, on my third

That second pair of socks took forever it seems. Finished in mid-June. I think the problem is I went to size 0 needles to make gauge, I thought, but in retrospect, size 1 would have been more like it. It takes a long time to knit a pair on size 0 needles, and the socks are a little snug, whereas on size 2's they were a bit loosely woven, I thought. The current pair is part of the sock knitalong and it is on size 3's and probably too loose a weave, but going very fast. Does anyone else have such… Continue

Done at Last 4/4/08

Last night was the last meeting of our two socks on two circular needles class at Sophie's Yarn Shoppe here in Louisville. The teacher Elise gave me the final piece of the puzzle -- the Kitchener's stitch. I came home and at last finished the socks. Slipped the pair on my feet immediately after they were free of the needles and felt the rush that comes from putting on your first pair of hand knit socks. They are dreamy! I plan to start another pair immediately to solidify the process, but the gr… Continue
