It began as a version of Lily Chin's shawl in Knitter's Fall 2000 ("Dramatic Drape Update," page 130), but in the end there were elements of the pattern that I found not to my liking. In wearing, under the weight of that much silk and cotton, the original configuration simply would have wrenched the cast on apart.
I eventually made so many modifications to the pattern on the fly that mine would be just about unrecognizable set beside the original's photo.
It was a pretty picture, but I'm happy with how mine turned out. Thanks for the encouraging comments!
This is our Bichon Casper and he's such a love! I have two other dogs also, a shepherd mix and an American Eskimo...and a hairy house full of lots of love!
Thanks- the great thing about trying to create and share beauty is it almost always comes back. My trouble with charts is trying to figure out what happens when there are decreases- if I've decreased a stitch by knitting two together, say number 18 and 19, is the next stitch to be worked #19 or 20 ? Seems simple but I'm a bit confused.
Thank you for the author recommendation. The books look interesting.
Enjoy your shawl!
Hugs,
Kelley

About Me:
I am a secretary at a college football office, although I really couldn't tell you a thing about the sport. I am a licensed hairstylist, but I only do a few freinds and family. I love to knit. I think when I gave up working in a salon it left a void for creativity, which knitting fills perfectly. I am married to a great guy (Dan) and I have 3 dogs (Zoe [a Border Collie-Black Lab mix], Oliver [Bichon Frise] & Murray [Bassett Hound]).
