I've been knitting now for five years. I love it! Wish I had tried it so much sooner. Though I sure am trying to make up for lost time I ALWAYS have knitting with me where ever I go. I taught myself with the help of online videos and websites. A friend gave me a spindle for Christmas and I know it will take practice and patience but I think I might have to find a class for this one.

When technology stops....

That's what happens when you use digital cameras. Sometimes you need to remember it needs to be charged. Which is what I exactly forgot to do. So there I am yesterday ready to take pictures and there is my camera dead no battery life. So I plugged it in to charged it but had to leave to run errands. UGH!! Well the ugh was partly for the camera (I will have to wait to hopefully this afternoon to post my FO.) and the other was while I was getting some car knitting time, in the end I had to frog it… Continue

Time to Separate....socks that is.

I am in such a weird place in my knitting lately. Its to soon to have Holiday knitting stress isn't it? I'm really not knitting as much as I did last year. Mostly because the DD's wanted stuff early to use this fall/winter. So beside two pairs of thrummed mittens, a few hats, and three pairs of socks, some lumps of coal with Santa hats, and a pickle. Nothing really. :) The most time consuming knitting really are my co-workers socks because there are charts involved. Plain stockinette socks are a… Continue

What A Week...and its not over yet!

This has been one of those life challenges see what your made of type of week. It started with me hand sewing my daughters choir dress during the weekend. Now that might not sound like a big deal to some but for me it was. It was one of those lovely two layer satin and gauzy type material dress with a lovely flare. Now mind you I am not a great sewer I can make a tote bag, a Halloween costume, even a pair of PJ bottoms, but this was one in my book was fine sewing mostly because of the material a… Continue

Hi, The hat was the basic Aviatrix Baby Hat. I did one extra segment and made chin strap narrower as advised by another member. I then added the stitching and already had the tassles left over from another project. I think the pattern is the sort with plenty of scope for letting your imagination run riot. you must have been a member for quite a long time to have made all those lovely items in your photos section.

Hey Knit, Thanks for the advice. I think I will hold off on the ball winder for now. I'll try it following one of the videos. I would rather spend money on new needles considering I only have one pair. The learn to knit kit comes with a pair, so I'll start accumulating new ones with each project. I have discovered the podcasts. I've downloaded a couple. I love to listen to them. I also watched a youtube video when new yarn arrived. I laughed so hard because it reminded me of my kids at Christmas....snicker. Have a good one!

Hi and thanks for the tip about dyeing but I don't think we have the same makers of Icing colourings in England. Mine were Dr. Oetker and Supercook. Maybe I was a bit stingy with the colouring and should have emtied the whole bottle in, which would have made for a darker colour. It is all hit and miss really. We did notice that the Sainsburys supermarket where we shop had changed suppliers this week and do the same colours as before, but had added green. I'm running out of white fleece at the moment and I wanted to try Turmeric - used in curry - as it is supposed to give a really brilliant yellow. That would also be fairly safe with your young son around. Maybe that and some blobs of red would give you an interesting orangey mix. I really must get the pictures of the results of my dyeing Blogged this week. barbara

Peggy: I couldn't get to your picture from your comment, but I did see all your pictures. It looks like fun. Hopefully I can get through the CLC and maybe then I can try more sweaters.
MrsK: I'm sorry if that came out wrong I'm challenged by sweaters( mostly adult size no problem with kids size though). I love my circs. I also love the look of straights ( like the Harmony's) and would love to knit an Estonia shawl on them, but circs are easier to duck out of the way of zooming children going by. haha....
Happy Knitting to you both.-Knit

You left a message on Peggy's blog that you're challenged with big straight needles because of your kids. I understand that so well. but have you tried to use circulars as yet? I use them all the time on my commutes and am now finding I have to get used to straights again. LOL. Might be worth a try. Or have you already tried and just not found them good for your purposes? Happy knitting! Maria

Knit: I did my sweater like hers on circs. I don't have many straight needles and barely use the ones I do have anymore. I did do it flat and sewed it together, though. You can see my finished sweater here. It took me two weeks, but I didn't work on anything else. It's big yarn, big needles and lot of entertaining cables and stuff to keep you going! Happy knitting! --P
