One of the benefits of starting work early...

This morning, on my way to work, I had the most gorgeous view to feast my eyes on...

I took this picture across the field from the Crafts Americana (Knit Picks) office in Vancouver, WA. Sunrise with Mt. Hood's silhouette in view (Mt Hood is located in Oregon). Yep, I am one of those crazy people that gets up a… Continue

from the depths of Europe...

I know I should have popped in sooner, but either there wasn't time or there wasn't internet... I had a blast in Italy... We were driving along the eastern coastline when we came upon an Olive grove and saw all these sheep grazing...

I thought of Knit Picks and had to… Continue

KIP at Big Al's bowling alley

Hi all... it's been a crazy weekend for me so far! But I finally had a chance to sit down and do some knitting in public!

A dear friend of mine got married today... and to do something a little different, her wedding reception is here at Big Al's ( I heard that the new movie with Har… Continue

Customer Service prepares for the July catalog!

Here's a sneak peak behind the scenes at Crafts Americana... Each division (Knit Picks, Connecting Threads, and Artists Club) does a review presentation to Customer Service. We review the new projects, techniques, yarns (fabrics, surfaces) and tools that will be appearing in the next catalog. I took some pictures from yesterdays meeting to share with you (sorry about the location, conference room was in use, so the presentation was done out in the warehouse!)

These first pictures are of me shar… Continue

KAL knitting woes - 1 step forward, 2 steps back!

About Me:
Age: too old!! (but young at heart!!)
Employed at Crafts Americana Group over 7 years (3 years in Knit Picks Department).

I'm Merchandising Manager for Knit Picks. I'm the one that hunts high and low for new books and tools. It is so much fun, like being a kid in a candy shop. I'm also the one that locates test knitters for our knitted samples you see online and in the catalog.

I'm a Nana with two of the cutest grandchildren! As a matter of fact, my grandson, who is 4 1/2, took my avatar picture... I'm impressed!

I have always deviated from the norm and have let the creative side take control. I love to knit, it's my "indoor" activity. I'm also looking to see how to incorporate my love of knitting into the metal sculptures I create.

I am always on the lookout for something new and exciting, whether it be books or a new and fun tool. I love to tap into my creative side by designing new knitted projects and working on product development. I'm a self-taught knitter and have been knitting for over 30 years. With the “wall of yarn” as the backdrop for my desk – inspiration isn’t far away!

I'm also going to mark the cable panel rows to work on each row of the actual pattern, too.

I went to Ravelry to update my projects with this pattern and at first had a hard time finding the pattern. Then I went searching for the pattern and found that it is a free download. What a disappointment to buy a book for a specific pattern, and discover that you could have had the pattern without the extra cost. Oh well, maybe I will knit more projects from this book. We will see.

Kim, I went back to try to start row 4 with all my enlargements and immediately found a mistake, so I've already had to frog. So I cast on again, and reknit the first three rows. Possible since I've been up since before 6am today, I should wait until I have some rest before I forge ahead. Maybe once I learn all of the abbreviations and get more comfortable with the pattern it won't be such a chore. Thanks for the help and encouragement.

I did my enlargement on the computer as a picture, so the clarity isn't 100%, but the size makes up for it. If I need another copy later I can make it. I also need to put some stitch markers on the Cable Panel portion on the next row, so I don't get too confused. I can envision making a lot of notes on the page where I have my instructions... I'll need an enlargement of that too, way too little for my old eyes.

Kim,
I finally cast on my vest - I'm also working on a Hemlock Ring Blanket, and it's at the boring period and I'm hating picking it up - so vest here I come.

I did the first three rows and finally saw the note about maintaining the stitch pattern, etc. Even though I had read the whole thing three times, I missed this, duh!

So now I'm going to make some "enlargement" copies of the chart, the base pattern for the center cable, and the cable pattern descriptions.. then I'll be OK.

I needed something challenging, but right now I'l climbing up hill. Keep your fingers crossed

I would love to be a test knitter if you ever need another set of hands! Great to have people so passionate about knitting

Would love a mini tour and meeting you!! Not sure when I'll be in your neighborhood in the next two weeks, but assume you're closed on weekends with typical M-F hours. I'm not necessarily looking for LYS, but kind of watching for events in the area. Thanks for your prompt reply. I won't be on the internet very much while on the road, but hope to see ya!

Hi Kim! I'm on the way to visiting friends on 9th St about a mile from KnitPicks. Would love to stop by and show you my design, Knitting Counts! - a must have stitcher's notion. Also, can you recommend Vancouver/Portland area LYS and events the middle two weeks of August? Thanks!
