Sounds like a very valuable experience!! It's a fairly simple mechanical device, so hope that he can follow the diagrams and make it work!!
EZ is fantastic--my top down yoke sweater is progressing through the incs==one more to go and then put the sleeves on stitch holders!! Am making it a cardi with garter stitch bands and buttonholes down the front at the same time. I posted my latests--my first socks and my sip bag--what a learning curve!! great fun!!

I'm so excited!!--I received the EZ books about a week ago and have been devouring them--couldn't stand it any longer--yes, I CO for a neck-down yoke turning her % upside down. Thought I'd better try it in cheap yarn first, but it seems to be working!!--exciting!! I really prefer color work to be neck down and someone on the EZ ravelry site encouraged me and gave me Meg's decrease %, which I'm using as the increase %--fun, fun!! What's the verdict on the wheel??

My DH retired this Jan., so it's an adjustment--lots of adjustment!!
I'm so delighted that you found a spinner so close--and knowledgeable, and generous!! I can't wait to hear what she says!! You'll be addicted to the wheel once you get the knack!! I have a booklet from the Ulster Museum "Spinning Wheels" with diagrams and place-names-- your's resembles Fig.31--Finland, but without the distaff? The thin wheel and sloped apron and turnings are similar. Exciting!!

I would recommend Golding Spindles. They really are excellent drop spindles and I'm sure they would love to help you pick your first! :)

That type of project is one on my to-do list. I have knit a lace doily- 2 actually- one from worsted, one from crochet cotton sz 10. But no wearables yet. My plan is to make one like yours for each of my 3 sisters and myself. I'll think about getting Meg's DVD. Thanks for the recommendation!

Advice on my beginners

I recently started a Knitting Club - to make my own knitting social group, actually, LOL.
I have one intermediate knitter, two advanced beginners, and then about six total beginners. They're coming along quite well, but I was thinking of doing a KAL with a felted bag pattern I found on Knitty. I thinking it would teach them several techniques and also they'd have a nice knitting bag at the end.
One of the problems is that they've got the one sz 7 needle that I had them start with and at this poi… Continue

Unblocked lace

On one of her podcasts, Kelley mentioned that she wished new lace knitters could see the finished product before it was blocked.
I've posted pictures on my page of the Mananita before, during, and after blocking.
I made my third Mananita by Meg Swansen and used Shadow. I actually remembered to take a picture of it before blocking. Not the best pics, but thought it would give a general idea of how different the two are.
