About Me:
Knit when I can, and when my two children, two dogs, two cats and one husband can spare me.
I work in the newspaper industry; reading, gardening and general crafting somehow fit into my spare time.
I was making felted bags from '101 One-Skein Wonders' as Christmas presents, want to get started on a big, comfy cardigan using the alpaca yarn I've had since September 2006, and would like to make my daughter another sweater this year. I also have more alpaca that I'd like to make into an airy wrap.

I haven't even logged on here in weeks (months maybe), but I find that Ravelry connects me to others and the discussions are addictive.
Bad girl.

Hands off the mitts

Well I finished the fingerless mitts late last week. And darned if I didn't forget to take them to work.

I seem to have done an extra increase round, because the second turned out (slightly) shorter than the first. It isn't too obvious, but the extra increase worked in my favor -- I ended up with 16 stitches on the thumb gusset, making K2 P2 work. With 14, the ''fit'' is better, but as I discovered, K2P2 doesn't work. So I have P4 at the end of the round (between thumb and body of glove),… Continue

Oddly itchy

That lovely yarn I'm using for the fingerless mitts is tickling the heck out of me. The yarn sheds fibers that kept landing on my neck last night.
And I had such high hopes for it, the SWS colorway so pretty and appealing.
If it's going to shed like that, I won't be able to wear them at work.
Start again? Keep going and make them full mittens for outdoor wear?
Tough call.

How I love summer

Posted on June 5, 2008 at 1:49pm 0 Comments

It is so good to see the sun, and the roses blooming like their lives depend on it (okay, for plants it's sorta true).

But then, I go to work. And the air conditioning is blanketing me in brrrrr.

It's right above our desk pod. It hits the top of my head, numbs my nose and lands at desktop level, on my hands.

If I could put the keyboard under the desk, it might not be so bad. But by midday my joints ache and I'm pulling the sleeves of my sweater down to my… Continue

Hey Jo,
The alpaca yarn is all that you hear! It's also very lightweight, but do knit is loose as it is warm. Come touch the animal! I have 3 babies :-)

No, I have not met knitters yet, I just saw your earlier note about B & N... That sounds easy. I never get out either for the same reason... 12 kids here. lol Encouraging to hear that there is knitters so close. I am wanting to learn felting as well. Must use my fiber from the alpacas here.

Smicksburg, its near Punxsutawney, Pa where the famous groundhog resides. It would be about 3 1/2 hours from Wilkes-Barre.

Shame on me; I don't know what ravelry is... shame on me. New to the neighborhood.

So have you joined the Northeast PA Knitters group yet? I'm not sure what the Lehigh Valley-area groups are, but if you join NEPA and click the Neighbors tab, I think it's called, you'll get groups with many of the same members.
Have fun! You can spend hours looking at patterns and drooling over yarn there. It's a blast.

Gotcha!!! There's several of them around here. We have a yarn shop in Nazareth (about 15 min from Bethlehem) which is Kramer's Yarn. They make all their yarn there too! That's the yarn I use for the bags.
