This page, the Profile page is sort of an introduction of yourself and your special place on the site. You can use whatever parts of it you want to... and ignore any part of it you don't... and when someone is curious about you or what you've been up to with you knitting, they can come to your Profile page and see whatever you've chosen to share. You can use the "Setting" (upper right box with your Profile name" to determine who can see what. I have a couple albums of my photos that I keep all my family photos in... my Friends can see those, other people can only see my projects... Let me know if you have any specific questions about anything at the site. I'd be pleased to walk you through whatever you need if I can.
