Hey girl: How's the hats coming now that ssk is no longer a bugaboo? I won't be seeing you this weekend, I've got Codie and family coming to dinner on Sunday and John is painting the house when it's not raining. It really is looking good! Your blog is pretty good, you need to put in some pictures of those beautiful hats you design. I'd love to see them and I'm sure the rest of the community would also. Yarnwench

Dear GrandyLJ: I am not doing well today (actually for the last 3 days) but have had some great things happen. Yesterday I bought a wonderful new sock book for 40% off from JoAnne's and today my yarn came for the Classic Lines Cardigan for the KAL. Don't know if I'll end up being in the KAL, have too many other things started. I ought to join the UFO KAL. That would help get everything finished before I start anything new.

How are you doing? How are the sales going? Are you doing good new things with your hats? How did the contest go? Did you win? John says Hi, love Dodie

Hi Granny LJ,
Well for me and my stash, lol, it's definately the colors. They inspire me. One can only hope for a room like that, and I never give up hope ;-)
Have a good day.

Really good. I finished that one I was telling you about, knit 7" then started decreasing, like you suggested instead of the 6.5" the way I usually decrease, and auhhhhh, much better ;-) thank you ;-)
Started another one and will finish it today. Its so pretty I think, I used a heathered green for the top,(I just love those heathers) and a multi green for the brim.
Well, have a great day.

I miss our talks and giggles also. I wonder how the earth can possibly survive without us talking it over and telling each other how bad or good things are. Now, there is no backup system for getting all of the junk out of their systems. Oh well, we've had our life. It's now the younger generation to carry on! Love you, Dodie

Thanks GrannyLJ. It started off good, knitting on my new hat, then had to stop and go to work, now am back home and back to my hat knitting. Will fix supper in a bit for us, then will get back to it.
I finished a hat yesterday, and the thing was to short, I KNEW IT, and the first one I made, it was to big, as I used to big of needles for part of it, so now this one I'm knitting (same pattern, lol, I am determined to get it rite, lol) I'm gonna do the pattern part the way the pattern says, but I'm gonna knit if for the length that I usually do hats(6 1/2" from the brim, then do my normal decrease, and hope I get the length rite this time ;-).
Have a good evening.

Granny LJ are you feeling sorry for yourself. I know how you feel. That's why I haven't written. I''ve been feeling the same way. I hurt so bad I can hardly stand it and knitting even a pair of socks is hard work right now. I'll try to call you tomorrow. I do love ya, yarnwench

Caps: Craft or art form?

Good morning.

This morning a friend told me that my caps are an art form. I never worried one way or the other about art form versus craft: Partially because I am most concerned about making a cap that sells and will not be regretted by the buyer/wearer.

But the words have cropped this week, again, and I am wondering about it.

I know another capper who crochets caps. She uses a rather large crochet hook and low end yarns. I sat in a show with her one day last fall and she made 1-1/2 caps in t… Continue

A great day for knitting

Good morning.

The weather here on the Oregon coast has been jumping through hoops. One day last week, we had rain, snow, sunshine, cloudy skies, semi-cloudy skies with a little bit of sunshine. The only thing we have not had lately is high wind. But it is all good weather to sit inside and knit while an old movie is playing.

Yesterday, I was a good kid and got a cap almost topped off. Have 3 more to top off and get ready to go to Shorebirds. I have been working so hard on the knitting that my… Continue

Smoke gets in your yarns....

Good morning.

I have not written much on either of my blogs for some time. Sometimes, things just get in the way of doing what I want to do. Things like: bills need to be paid, the septic tank backing up into the kitchen sink, a birthday, getting groceries. You know the list. I really thought retirement meant that I would be able to sit in my comfy chair, knit and watch old movies. But every once in a while, I guess, you just have to pause and take care of other things.

I did have an interesti… Continue

Yesterday

Good morning:

Yesterday was a pretty quiet day. Karen and I did some photographing in the morning and then she went to her shop. I sat and knit. On Saturday, we went to Lincoln City and I got some new yarn at Nestucca Bay Yarns. So yesterday afternoon I had my face in some of the new yarn. Have a cap cast on and the ribbing and about 2 inches of the body done.

I was busy watching the new cap develop and the phone rang. It was from my neighbor, Karen, and my friend and mentor, Yarnwench, was lo… Continue

Two blogs

Good morning:

This is all pretty new to me, but I have wanted to be part of a knitting community for a long time. Am not driving any more so my activities are limited by distance and weather. Now I feel like I can talk with other knitters again. That makes me smile, especially when I discovered my friend Yarnwench was on this site, too. She had the yarn store in Toledo where I shopped at when I was still driving.

Also, I have another blog. It is called Knitting with Granny LJ. You can access i… Continue
