So do you have 58 sts currently on the needle? If yes, then definitely cast on 10 additional sts onto your work. Sometimes you have to turn your needle to the WS to cast on. I think I would suggested a knitted cast on.
Cheryl, I don't know what to tell you without seeing the pattern. In a normal vest, you would start knitting at the bottom right side and when you reach the underarm, you would start decreasing at the outside edge and at the neck edge, not increasing. If this is a pattern that is readily viewable on the internet, that would help. I'm afraid I can't help you without seeing the pattern or having more information. Angel
Cheryl, are you on a RS row or WS. Because I don't have the pattern information, I am guessing that if you are still working on the right side you will be continuing on the same needles. Usually when it says to cast on 10 sts for some sort of shaping you will either use a knitted cast on or a backward loop cast on. If you could give more information, we might be able to help more.
In my experience, I'd say cast on the 10 stitches on the same needles. Be sure to note on the pattern whether to cast on after finishing a right side row or a wrong side row. I think you'll do it one way for the right front and the other way for the left front. The reason I'm suggesting to be careful on this is so you won't end up with 2 right fronts or 2 left fronts. Was this by any chance a top down knit pattern?
My only tip is to stick with instructions even if they seem wrong or don't make sense. Sometimes I sleep on it and REREAD the next day and suddenly they make sense and it all comes together. Good luck,
Norma
