Glad to hear from you. You said you moved up north. I grew up in the north before moving South. (Born in Iowa, lived their 9 years, then moved to SD, lived their 9 years, then roamed over the USA for quite a while with a stint in Japan and Hawaii and settled here in NC Been here now for over 20 years and call it home.)
Yes, I find a dilemma with my knitting, needlework, sometimes painting, family and puppies (I have 4 dogs - one a service dog for myself) all which require lots of time and of course, a full time job. (I teach preschool 8 hours a day.) But even insurance companies have noted that we are actually not only happier people (stitchers / crafters) but also healthier people. Good reasons for our indulgences, wouldn't you say?
Keep on keeping on. Prov. 31:13 Bella4

Thanks! I have been knitting this time for 2 years and love it too! I would love to knit lace, so I thought this shawl would be easy, oh I was wrong. Lynn

Hi ya Ingrid,
Thanks for your note.
Well,... I am in the process of knitting hats with earflaps! My first hat,ss, Was really leary about doing it, but find they are lots of fun.
They are for my daughteer and 2 grandsons. So hope they like them. I sort of don't knit things for other people, as I don't know if they like! Have heard stories from friends who really felt bad, after working so hard. But I am always glad to do it if asked!!
I think painting is my favorite, but haven't done as much since
picking up knitting this last year. After a couple of years of pushing by my leader,(teacher) I changed from oils to watercolors. That did it! Pretty much do only watercolors. Just finished a painting of a 'lonely' iceberg on yupa paper. Very interesting. But I like it. I like doing different subjects.
Sorry, but I need to stop for now. Will get back soon.
If you would like to tell me more of what you like, etc, and just chat be glad! Pris

Hey, thanks for you comments. I like to make things for babies because they work up fast. I also like to practice stitches by making scarves. Right know I am teaching 3 kids in my nieghborhood to knit. The range in ages from 8 to 11. 2 boys and a girl. If you have any suggestions on beginner projects I would gladly welcome them.
Happy knitting

Hi, Thanks for responding to my profile. It is always nice to converse with people who share similar interests. I like to combine different colors and textures of yarn to make pillows and scarfs. I just started a scarf with a lacy pattern - this is where I run into trouble - I need to learn how to focus and not get distracted. My friend Diane and I made magnet boards and using long strips of magnets that we can move helps us keep track of the rows. We'll see how many times I will end up taking out stitches. I'm not getting too far with the crochet project. Again I lose track of rounds, etc. I started making pocketbooks out of old jeans. I had to break out the sewing machine to work on them. I finished a few & they came out pretty good. Need more time getting back on track using the sewing machine. Each time I see another craft I want to get involved. I witnessed a woman painting on silk. She also just squeezed paint onto a wet silk plain white scarf - no specific drawing in mind - similar to tie-dye that the kids do. Very fascinating. I don't have any talent for free hand drawing but the other way I described would be fun to try. Maybe next year. My husband would throw me out (just kidding) if I start another type of project. Bye for now Grandma Gail

Hi, I just joined also. Have been knitting for about 60+ years. Knitted many sweaters, socks, mittens, just about everything but fairisle. That is my next project to learn. There are no knitting shops or clubs where I live. There are a few people who knit and gather at a local craft store, but I don't feel comfortable there, so I stick to internet. I do most of my shopping there. What a wonderful experience. Before the internet I ordered yarn from Bendigo Woolen Mills in Australia. I live in California. Listen to many knitting podcasts. And knit while doing so. I also listen to many audio books while knitting. Thank for the message. Yvonne
