About Me:
I'm a SAHM who likes to knit, write, paint, and bake.

I've been knitting since, at age nineteen, I needed a new scarf and decided I should make it myself. I got my mom to re-teach me the basics, and then I perplexed her by insisting that I wanted my scarf to have a pretty stitch pattern in it. I worked my way through her Reader's Digest Encyclopedia of Stitchery (or something like that) every time I came across something in a pattern I hadn't learned yet, and I made gazillions of scarves as Christmas presents that year.

Then, I went on to learn knitting "not in a straight line" by figuring out my own mitten pattern through some trial and error with making stitches and decreasing stitches in the right places at the right times.

I still need to learn a lot, but I'm stubborn and I love making up my own patterns when I can. When I can't, I find a great-looking one and then modify it if I have to.

And sometimes, I knit a straight line again, just because I love the feel of yarn and needles in my hands.

I Need Tips from YOU

I'm starting up a knitting group here in my little town since our library was kind enough to build a brand-new building with a community room in it, complete with coffee-making facilities.

Does anyone have any tips for making it a really great group?

I'm thinking of giving it an official-sounding name, like the Upper Canada Knitting Guild, to entice all the knitting ladies in the community to come check it out. But after I draw them in, what should I be doing to keep them coming? Classes? Spea… Continue

The Sock Yarn Blankie Begins

Yesterday, I blissfully and somewhat ignorantly began a project that may well take me years to complete. But I already have a vision of the finished project in my head, so the daunting task of knitting enough socks so that I'll have enough scraps to make all these tiny little squares into a queen-size blanket… Continue

I'm in love with knitting socks!

I can't stop. My fingers are starting to cramp from the tiny needles, but I keep going. I made two of my sons a pair each (they got to pick their own yarn), and then I made myself a pair, and now I'm working away at making them for the entire extended family as Christmas presents. They're small, they're cozy, they don't take a lot of yarn, and they're new and exciting after years of knitting scarves and mittens and hats and the occasional sweater.
These are my sons':… Continue

Almost done my CLC!

I've steeked it and everything. Whew! I didn't think I'd be nervous, but about three inches in to the cutting, I started to panic that my reinforced stitching wouldn't hold.

But, I gave myself a pep talk and I took a deep breath, and before I knew it, after hours of sewing,… Continue

Learning to Love Again

I have always been an impatient knitter.

I think the problem started when I realized that there weren't enough knitting hours in a day to make every pattern that I had circled in each of my new knitting magazines or to knit enough scarves for every person I loved. So, I learned to knit faster. I practiced each stitch in my mind before bed, and I tried different techniques until I'd found the quickest ways to knit up my projects.

It still wasn't fast enough. The bags of free yarn piled up in my… Continue

Hey Amanda, in case you have'nt seen that one yet, here's a KP video on how to block lace. Following our late discussions I though you might be interested in it.

Wow, girl, YES I found the KP community! From now on, if I spend less time knitting and crocheting, it will entirely be your fault! LOL kidding. Thanks for sharing the community site.

hi Amanda...I have been putting in late hours after I get home from the 3-11 shift .I am "grazing through the many patterns and am wanting to get started on more than I can do. I am finishing up another pair of socks and I want to do a pair of baby socks with a cuff for a friend and the start some of the patterns for socks that I found on the site. The lilac baby sweaters are done!!!!!!! Do you have the pattern for the market bag that you were knitting? I would like to try one..my knitting buddy has signed up for this site as well..she too put in a few late nights ...looking through the patterns and yarn.

Hi Amanda. My Grey and Pink CLC is trucking along nicely. Thanks for asking. Over the weekend I joined the arms to the body. I'm glad you're doing another one in this color combination. Basalt and Lip Gloss look great together! Hopefully by the end of the week I'll have another picture posted either on my Ravlery account on on the Progress thread in the KAL. Good luck with your knitting!

Yes, it is, Amanda. I was trying to help someone else work through how to change their profile picture. So I decide to know how to do it, I should go ahead and change mine. I feel much better about this picture. Thanks!
