Adventures in immersion dyeing

Aloha All -

I'm not much of an immersion dyer, rather a handpainter, but Elaine's post this past week about immersion dyeing inspired me to try it again. Plus I just got in some new dyes and mordant so off to the stove top I went.

First, I pulled out 4 oz of 64 ct merino wool and split it into 2-2oz pieces. Then took out…

How I hand-paint using Kool-Aid or food coloring dyes

Hello KP Community! I have Good Friday off today which I haven't had off in years, but my new company allows for it - so yay!  Since it's my day off, I'm going to push off some home chores for a bit and have some fun.

Last month I hand-carded and spun up some Huacaya alpaca into a single ply yarn and had it undyed for a while. Until one day after work, I decided I missed painting so much I took out the Kool-aid and food coloring and had at it! Here are photos of my…

I was going to put this link in one of the discussions but wasn't sure quite where to put it! A friend of mine told me about cafepress.com and I checked it out this morning. I searched for 'knit' and it came up with over 7,000 products! Here are a few of my favorites:

How I made roving from hand-carded rolags

Posted on January 31, 2011 at 4:30pm 39 Comments

Aloha All!

So, I was on the computer this weekend researching drum carders (just to drool and see the various types, makes, models, etc ) and came across a very interesting question on some other knitting/spinning forum. Someone asked if you can make roving out of hand carded rolags. Hmmmmm - good question! I love hand carding, but the rolags are very short and I really enjoy long rovings to spin.

I had just carded 2 rolags that were waiting to be spun, so…

Christina,

Now I will wish you a Happy Birthday!  Well it's a little early, but at least less than 24 hours this time.  I hope it is a great day for you and you can do whatever it is you wish to do.  Wendy

ah kewl beans...listen woman...after you do the provisional cast on...I made mine like 2 feet long...cast on each 10 sts square ..knit every row for 20 rows...looks very weird...but keep with it...OH also...VERY important to slip every beginning stitch...easier to pick up 10 on next diamond ...it is NOT hard..just a bit weird lol
