Still working in the BigFoot shawl, finished the yoke and am moving slowly on the body. My first major attempt at the lace knitting. I hope it turns out well and then will try the Julia. The pictures of the finished ones are breathtaking!!!!

I got my book, poured over what yarn to choose and then ordered it. Got it the other day and wound it into balls. Now I have to muster up the courage to make the shawl!

I found a lace stole pattern at Lion Brand that used a light worsted weight yarn. Fortunately I had some in my stash that would be very pretty in that stole pattern. So I decided to make that first before attempting one of the patterns in the book and possibly messing up such beautiful yarn from KP. (Remember, I've only been knitting since Christmas so I am on a major learning curve here.) But the pattern I'm working is rather simple and it's going to turn out very pretty...I hope. Soon I'll muster up the courage to begin the Julia Shawl.

I am doing NIna's Ann Arbor in Gloss. I used CHipolte for the yoke and switched to Mango for the body. I will propably do the edging in Chipolte. I did add one pattern repeat to the yoke and will probably add one repeat to the body to account for the lace weight yarn.

I measure stretched out, but you can do it any way you'd like. I've been known to rinse a project in lukewarm water, still on the needles (keeping the wooden tips dry), and lay it out to dry on a white quilt back overnight so that the stitches will relax and I can get some idea of what it's going to be like when it grows up. Every yarn is different, and a small swatch doesn't quite show you how it's going to be when the weight of the shawl is added into the equation.

As for making the patterns your own by playing with them, that's what patterns are for, as far as I'm concerned. Have fun!

Ooh, I really like how you did the two different colors.

Question ~ When the book says to work until 22" in length and then start the border, do I measure that stretched or as is (ratsnest style)?

Alison I hope you don't mind but I added 2 rows of garter at the end and a crocheted scallop border, I am now trying to decide which one will be next. Love the pattern and adore the book--your biggest fan
