\Welcome to the Knit Along for Alison Jeppson Hyde's book, "Wrapped in Comfort." Joining this group will help you share your progress, get help and encouragement, and keep you moving along!

Comment by momsknittin on October 14, 2008 at 8:36am: Hi! I just purchased Wrapped in Comfort this weekend. I have been knitting for 8 years now but have never done lace knitting. The shawls are really beautiful but I think I'm going to start with the Concert Story Scarf, maybe for my aunt for Christmas. Has anyone ever used KP's Shimmer to make a lace project? Thanks for any input!

I am also doing the Sweater workshop sampler and really like the way that the sampler teaches you the characteristics of each stitch pattern and how to read them. I was wondering if there is a book or a tutorial or( hint-hint) perhaps you may want to do something that would teach beginners to lace knitting how to read different lace stitches. I do know what a yarn over looks like and the k2tog, plus ssk, but wouldn't it be great to be able to read how they work together in a pattern and what they will look like.

Comment by Bonnie on September 19, 2008 at 10:14am: Hi: I finally finished and blocked Constance shaw. I used KP's Gloss (Dolphin). My husband could not believe I did it. I credited you and your book Alison, for no way could I have done this beautiful shawl on my own. I am so excited for I am going to give it to my mother next week for her 87th birthday. It will be a nice surprise . I know she will love it. Like your friend Helen, I thought it would be nice for her to wear when she goes out to get her mail . Right now I have the smaller Water Turtle shawl on my circular needles and am using Araucania yarn. I bought 2 skeins (376 yds per skein) and I am hoping I have enough yarn. Because the yarn has no dye lots I am working with 2 skeins every other row. It is blending in nicely.

Anyway, I did the smaller Water Turtles shawl in two skeins of Knitpicks' merino/silk Bare that I dyed, getting it to a goodly length on the yardage. I gave it yesterday to a friend about to have rebuilding surgery on her shoulder and upper arm after a major trauma she's lucky to have survived, and it will be awhile before she'll be able to comfortably use sleeves while she heals. So, actually, I gave her two shawls, that blue one and one designed just for her. They were so much the perfect thing. I never thought of my shawls as medicinal before, but in a lot of ways that's exactly what those two were. I just thought Knitpicks would like to know where their yarn ended up. It couldn't have gone to a better use.

You can get all kinds of different effects with different yarns and different needle sizes, from thick and warm to ethereal and airy in a laceweight; do a small swatch to see if you like how a yarn you like looks, and enjoy! I find it endlessly fascinating how much a single pattern can vary in the outcome.

Comment by Bonnie on August 2, 2008 at 8:23am: Heybabs, I am looking foreward to your picture of the Shetland Tea Shawl. What yarn did you use ?? I am finally off to a good start with Julia's shawl, having learned the importance of markers every 6 stitches.( My brain just keeps wondering when I knit and I loose my place so easily.) I would like to knit a birthday shawl for my mother. With knitting Julia's shawl I used K-P's gloss, but for my mother's shawl I would like a finer and softer yarn. Maybe the Alpaca Cloud you used for the Julia would be a good choice. I'll check back to see your new shawl pictures. You have inspired me to finish "the Julia" Thanks and Happy knitting.
