Hi, Working on my shawl. It's going alittle slow. I guess I just let those socks get in the way! Actually I'm doing a lacy pattern. I still pray when I'm knitting on it. I pray for patience! HaHa!

Hi Sophichihuahua. I think I've finally figured out the rythim so I can watch TV while I knit this - no nail biter shows tho. It's really only two different alternating pattern rows. I have stitch markers in the knit stitch columns between the pattern repeats so that I can check -frequently- to be sure I have the correct number of stitches for each one. So far, so good.

Hi Josietoo, Wow you are ahead of me! I am only up to row 16. I know what you mean as I have the TV on but get distracted. Was thinking of listening to my IPOD (knitting blogs) but not sure that is a good idea.!

Hi Soophiechihuahua! I'm working on the Big Foot shawl as well. I'm on row 38. I've got to figure out a way to set off the repeats - my stitch markers are HUGE when compared to the lace weight yarn I'm using. I've increased to the 380+ stitches and I think it takes 20 minutes or so to knit a row. That does depend on how many times I need to tink back half a row or so! No watching TV or listening to audio books at this point!

rlaba, I also knit Continental and/or Combination. I find that if i use the charts to determine the slant of the decreases I have better luck. Generally, for me, I convert the ssk to k2tog, and the k2tog to a ssk. For me, the ssk requires that I twist the stitch so the forward leg is on the front of the needle. Then when I knit he two stitches together the decrease slants to the right. The k2tog will slant the decrease to the left. I hope that makes sense.

I finished swatching and have a few rows done on the Bigfoot shawl. This will be my real first attempt at lace knitting. Had the pleasure of meeting the designer herself at Stitches East last year.

Help! I'm a beginning knitter who uses the Continental method of knitting. The stitch instructions in the book appear to be sort of backwards to what I do and I'm thinking it's because it's the American style. Am I right? If so, how do I convert those instructions to my knitting method? I don't want to start knitting a shawl until I completely understand how to do the "fancy" stitches.

I got my book yesterday afternoon and had it completely read through by suppertime! I just love a good read! LOL

I've decided to do a scarf first to get an idea of how this lace knitting works and then I'l be brave and try the Julia Shawl.
But I can't do anything without understanding the stitches. Please help, someone?!

I've had the book for about a year now - this is pushing me to do something. I've just about decided on the Big Foot Shawl on Page 34. I have some KP lace weight in my stash that I think will work for this. On to swatching!

silverthorn -
If you are going to dye your shawl a dark color, I'd do it after you knit it. It is too straining on the eyes otherwise.

Ok, so I really wanted to make a pi shawl, but I was having trouble locating a pattern without springing for the $50 to get EZs book. It was not available at my local library, but, Wrapped in Comfort was, and this sounds like a fun group. Now trying to decide between Barn Swallows and Michelle's. Something to think about as I finish a sweater for my daughter (17). Picture coming soon, I hope.
