I was fortunate to get an autographed copy of this book at Stitches West, and just a little bit of yarn here and there as well. I have projects in mind for some of the yarn, and some was just too beautiful to pass up. I took two classes at Stitches, one was chart reading for lace. I was ready to leap.
I started the easiest one in the book, Julia's shawl, with a worsted weight yarn last week. I am now past all the increases and am working the body. It is a really easy, repetitive pattern, but nevertheless it is the perfect one to start with because I still am making plenty of mistakes to learn from. When I finish this, my next project from this book will be the Bigfoot Shawl with a finer yarn.
I cast on yesterday for the Peace of My Mind shawl. I'm using an alpaca/silk blend in laceweight on size 8 options. It's going very well. I'm just past the yoke and am on the main body of the shawl now.
I got an autographed copy through a holiday swap on the Knit Talk group. Imagine my surprise to find that Alison had me! Wow! I'm still very appreciative and am glad that I'm finally tackling a project from this book.
I finished this shawl a couple of weeks ago. I keep forgetting that using lace weight when fingering weight is called for can make a big difference in length. I think it turned out well, though.
I am close to finishing Julia's shawl and plan to do Bigfoot. It may take me forever to do, but I thought I would dive in headfirst and do Peace of My Mind next. I wanted white or ivory, so I chose KP's fingering weight bare 70% merino wool, 30% silk. Has anyone used this yarn undyed? Will it look OK, or should I try to dye it ivory?
Have you started with the Bare merino/silk yet? My book and yarn just came in and I'm hoping to dye the yarn this weekend and get started on Julia early next week. Just wondering how your Peace of My Mind in the ivory Bare is turning out.

It is coming out beautifully, I am very pleased with how it is knitting up. I have 1-1/2 repeats to go on the body, but I am only knitting 2-3 rows a day because I only work on it when I can give it my full attention. I'll put a picture up when it is finished and blocked.
I have received my book of shawls. They are all so lovely, I had a hard time deciding which one to make! I bought yarn, Cascade Heritage, at my yarn shop, and then matched up the yardage and weight. It's the only way that worked for me, as I would like to make them all! I finally chose the short Water Turtles. Now I need to get started. There go the other projects onto the back burner!
Any fingering weight yarn you like would work. You could also do a laceweight and a smaller needle for a more ethereal look, but I'd start at the stitch count of row 2 if you did to keep the neckline from being too tight and it will definitely not be as wide around. If you use something like Knitpick's alpaca laceweight, I find that between the slight fluff factor and the energy spun into the yarn, it holds its shape well and looks good on a bigger needle than I would use for a comparably-thin merino yarn. I've used size 6 needles with it, doing another shawl with about the same number of stitches as the Michelle in the main body, and quite liked how it came out.
