I don't have the book, yet. I was hoping to find a listing of the patterns with their respective yarn requirements so that I could order it all at once. Is there a listing somewhere that I just haven't come across?
If you haven't received an answer yet, let me know which pattern you'd like to do (I think Knit Picks allows you to see specific ones from the book) and I will be happy to give that information to you.
BE CAREFULL!!! Once you do one of these shawls you will be hooked for life!! This is the best book not only for rating the easy ones (for beginners) but also for the very clear directions. You would be amazed at how many patterns just don't make sense...especially to an old blonde!! hahahaha Just love this book!! I have been saving my Malabrigo lace yarn for just one of these shawls. I just finished my second one (the shorter white one...don't have the book in front of me) and am going to be daring and try an intermediate pattern. ooooooh...wish me luck!! I have some pure Silk yarn that I would love to use, but I'm not sure how to "join" new balls since you can't finger felt it and I'm not very good at working the yarn in...especially in lace. Any suggestions??
I've had the book for awhile now and today ordered some Noro sock yarn to knit with. So I will get my book out tonight and decide which shawl I will knit. This seems like a quiet group.
Just joined this group but have had this book for almost 2 years and love every pattern in it. Not having done any lace knitting, I have attempted Julia's Shawl numerous times and keep ripping it out. Finding this group has prompted me to try again. Just learned about the "lifeline" technique. Maybe that will be my salvation and I'll finally be able to complete it. That and a little encouragement from the group. I'm using Shimmer in Morning Mist.
The Lifeline is a LIFE Saver! I was working on my shawl (Turtles) when I realized that I must have dropped a stitch because there was a huge hole. I dropped back to the lifeline, and was able to pick it up from there.
One word of warning, though. Make sure you keep the lifeline current. Mine was 9 rows back, which meant I had to rip out 4 1/2 hours of work! From now on, I will make sure I move the lifeline more often -- keeping it no more than 4 rows back, but preferably 2. It does take time to move it, but it saves oodles of time in the end if you need it!
