Knitting Community

Hi, I'm Cyndi and I just joined. I already have the book and have started the Carlsbad scarf on page 56. It is for beginners and since I'm new to knitting I felt it was the correct choice.
I have 12" or more of the scarf done. I had to restart it several times and take out some mistakes later but it seems to be coming along nicely and the pattern isn't too bad once I got the hang of it.
I am using the 10 1/2 needles it calls for and Manos brand silk blend yarn in the wildflower shade. It's 30% silk and 70% merino.
The needles I chose are the Knitpicks multi colored wood interchangable circular needles. This is the first project I've used them on and I like the smooth finish and sharp points. They feel great in my hands.
The scarf seems to be holding it's shape better than the one in the photo. I attribute that to the wool content of the yarn.
I'm enjoying working this scarf even with all my frogging and would make it again.
My progress is faster than I expected(once I got going) and that is encouraging.
I would love to hear from anyone else working or planning to work this scarf.
Don't be afraid to start this one......I just learned how to pearl a month ago and if I can do it so can you.
I will send photos when I can, Cyndi.

Cyndi,

I've only been knitting since Christmas so I started this scarf too, only I made it in worsted weight for about 10 inches. Since it was just a practice piece to see if I could follow the directions, I frogged the whole thing last night so I could use the yarn for something else.

I am going to be making Julia's shawl...the only one for beginners in the book!...but I can't decide what color. I'm going to buy a couple of hanks of Gloss Lace yarn but the colors are all so cool that I am having trouble deciding what I want. This is the very first item I have made for myself even after many years of crocheting! So I want the color to be perfect. LOL

Keep us all posted on your progress and if you decide to make a shawl from this book, too.

Ruthie ;-)

P.S. Aren't those needles the greatest thing since sliced bread??!!??
