Knitting Community

I thought it would be nice to have thread for progress updates.

First I want to thank Tina for starting this group. I can tell I am going to benefit from the support of other knitters focused on UFOs. And, I like having a structure, format, hang-out, whatever. I think that I am also going to learn a lot of tricks for finishing UFOs.

The popcorn popper reward is certainly working for me. I've finished the gusset decrease on my socks and I'm heading towards the toe.

That's so funny, my DD was the one who learned to knit first. Though really never made anything. Then my other daughter was learning to crochet for home Economic class. Which lead us into a discussion about knitting. My older DD tried to teach how to knit but I just couldn't get it. Then I found the Knitting Help website and literally spent the whole day with a pair of metal needles, some acrylic yarn and the web videos teaching myself with the help of the videos of course how to knit. Turned out knitting continental was so much easier for me and I haven't put the needles down since. It gives the girls a giggle because they could not imagine how into knitting I would become. haha...

She started a small needle afghan and decided she'd be dead 100 years before it would be finished!
that afghan may not take that long if it's interesting to work on.
i used my gauge for a pair of socks that i worked on continuously until they were done to compare with the gauge on a large-needle project [my hemi] to figure out how long it would take. i was within an hour of the time it would take. i.e., 900 gms of worsted-weight yarn takes me about the same time to knit as 100 gms of sock yarn. but i've found that the interest of the pattern is a major factor. a complicated pattern can go faster than straight stockinette. --p
But, straight stockinette is much preferable for subway knitting :o)
for straight stockinette, i need entertainment! i try to have some projects that are entertaining and some i can do in cruise control. --p
I agree, but I end up doing the "cruise control" ones more because I'm always trying to knit while ____. That's why my lace shawl is only about 3 inches done :o(
you must have a busy life! i have a lot of down time between activities, and i get bored with what's on the tv. [dh watches cnbc a lot. boy does that get boring!] --p
I think it's just that I like to multi-task and I have a zillion projects going. I also have a zillion audio books I'd like to "read", and actual books (which I haven't really tried knitting while reading). I knit straight stuff while watching movies and riding the subway but while listening to audio books I do my quilting. Fortunately, or not? we don't have a TV. Maybe we should get a tv so I can get more done on my lace shawl! :o)
i like the movies with no commercials, but otherwise i could do without tv. i like audiobooks, cds and satellite radio. we even take it camping. a zillion. that's more projects than i have going. i thought i had a lot! --p
:o)
It's funny the things that keep us knitting... sometimes the "easy" stuff... gets so boring that we just keep it up.... I'm knitting a super, super simple garter stitch shawl for my DGD (her first one has bit the dust)... and I'm doing well... but it is so, so boring... got to get this finished before Monday so that I can mail it out with a bunch of other knitted items that are already finished

Yes, sometimes straight knitting is best... but not always.
I'm having a hard time getting used to your new avatar, Susan! I love it, but my brain hasn't "matched it up with you" yet! LOL!
I guess I surprised several people... I did a blog last night explaining... sort of... the change. Glad you like it.
