Knitting Community

I thought it would be nice to have thread for progress updates.

First I want to thank Tina for starting this group. I can tell I am going to benefit from the support of other knitters focused on UFOs. And, I like having a structure, format, hang-out, whatever. I think that I am also going to learn a lot of tricks for finishing UFOs.

The popcorn popper reward is certainly working for me. I've finished the gusset decrease on my socks and I'm heading towards the toe.

Progress report on the Noro Tunic/Dress for my daughter. The neck section is done, one sleeve is almost to the sleeve cap decreases, so that means one sleeve to knit, finish one sleeve, and (unfortunately) seam the neck, one shoulder, both side seams, both sleeve seams! The seaming should only take a month! haha

Also started a pair of Monkey Socks for my daughter and have finished the ribbing and half the first pattern repeat on the first sock. It seems so small, but it goes on my foot and her foot isn't that much bigger than mine. I guess if she can't get them on at the end, I'll just have to wear them instead! hahahah

Also started my own Noro Iro bulky jacket. I've done about 8-10 inches of the back.

I think I may be getting a KP gift certificate for my birthday this week, so I'll be able to stock up on more City Tweed. I got the Nutmeg hat pattern booklet and really want to do that one for myself and for my daughter. The crunch will be choosing which colors to do! I love that pattern! The reason I think I'm getting a gift certificate is that I had an email from my daughter telling me to watch my email for a birthday treat this week and then in the next sentence giving me a link to the pickle ornament and asking me if I'd seen it! She remembers OUR pickle ornament from her childhood. Mine does not have a moustache! So I'm using my detective capabilities and putting 1 and 1 together to equal JOY for ME! haha
Sounds like you have everything figured out! Way to go! I need to be sure my kids have the link to the KP site, and knot that a gift certificate is the MOST WANTED prize of all. Thanks for the hint. --S
I was right! I got my email today with a note from the daughter ending with 'knit knit knit xoxoxoxoxo'! haha It was a good start for my day, but I managed to bum out the end..... I was home from my book group, with one eye on the results show of Dancing With The Stars, and working on the Monkey Socks and I pull on the cable to get the needle in position and you know what's coming.... Yes, I yanked out the needle from the knitting! I had to rip back 6 rows of pattern work to the end of the twisted ribbing in order to get the stitches back on the needles. Argh! All I can say is, it's a good thing I didn't have to redo that ribbing or I wouldn't be making Monkey Socks! hahaha
Marta,
I don't do that sort of thing very often, but I have and I nearly want to scream, but I try to be patient with myself and just knit on... ha ha ha --S
Marta: Maybe your Monkey Socks belong in a cage when they're not actually in your hands! --P
Unfortunately, the trouble started when they were IN my hands! hahaha I'm ok since I didn't have to reknit the twisted ribbing. That was a bear. I've done about half the pattern that I had already finished. Better to have that happen with 64 stitches on the needles rather than 200 or more! These things are sent to test us....
"That was a bear." Marta, I'm afraid you lost me in translation there. Doesn't happen too often. What do you mean with that expression?

Again, I have vivid imagination. I'm seeing a big brown bear or grizzly here, pawl like plates, eyes as big as saucers and hungry. - Alright, there's also the Teddybear that I'm married to. He's much more gentle, although not less hungry. LOL
Maria,
I think that is a purely American saying (not really sure) but the definition is: "something difficult to do or deal with " We may have a lot more translating to do if these expressions keep you in shock. --S
Oh, I'm sure over the years you will have to translate a bit more. But that's okay. I'm a sponge. - Oh, again my imagination. Me disguised as a bath sponge. LOL

Alright, time for bed. Should go a little bit before midnight today or my head will hit the keyboard at work repeatedly. LOL

Good night everyone and enjoy the chat and projects :)
Talk to you tomorrow! --S
Susan answered for me. It does mean something difficult to do and I learned that phrase from my grandmother and have used it for more than 50 years myself. No idea why 'bears' should be so difficult, anymore than why people learning a lot should be 'sponges'--except they're soaking up a lot of stuff! haha
I'm getting kind of spongy, but I don't think that's what you mean! --P
