Knitting Community

I thought it would be nice to have thread for progress updates.

First I want to thank Tina for starting this group. I can tell I am going to benefit from the support of other knitters focused on UFOs. And, I like having a structure, format, hang-out, whatever. I think that I am also going to learn a lot of tricks for finishing UFOs.

The popcorn popper reward is certainly working for me. I've finished the gusset decrease on my socks and I'm heading towards the toe.

I have to wait to join a house until next term, I missed the sign-ups for this one. I'm still super excited about it, though. This will give me plenty of time to finish reading the series before I really start to participate. ^_^
Wow Teresa, this is beautiful! It is amazing how we inspire one another to keep finishing all of these wonder projects. Good job! Susan
Very nice, Teresa. Light and airy! I like it and it's fits great!

I am zooming along on my daughter's Noro tunic/dress. It's a great fit, thank heavens.... I've seamed one shoulder of the front/back and am knitting the cowl neck now. One sleeve is more than half done and I should finish most of both before going back home next week. I'll have to take the sweater home so I can wash/block the sleeves before sewing them into the sweater. It will be softer and nicer if I do that. We also decided to leave a 6-8 inch slit in the bottom of the side seams so it won't pull around her hips. It fits fine, but that just gives a bit more wiggle room and doesn't stretch the yarn at all. We've been going through magazines, books, and on-line resources and my Ravelry queue must have 200 items in it by now! So much for finishing my UFO list! hahaha
Marta,
Next week when I see my DIL, I plan on showing her some of the things I'm wanting to knit for her new baby... once she learns how to look for other things, I can imagine my list growing, too.
I do the same thing with the youngest granddaughter's mom. She is very particular about colors and styles and it's better to get some feedback than waste my knitting time! The best thing about this trip, other than having so much time with my daughter, is that she's learning how much I can do to alter patterns to suit her tastes and I'm learning more about what she really likes in colors and styles. I do a lot of knitting for her that she knows about, but like to throw in a surprise or two occasionally. Moms have their ways! hahaah We looked at a pattern yesterday for a really cute camisole but it had a weird design element that neither of us liked. So I read the pattern and realized that it really was a design element and not something needed to 'cover' a join or something. So I told her we could just eliminate it and she was ecstatic. I'm learning more and more about the importance of styling and presentation. Sometimes they put a garment on a model and it is WAY to broad, small, big, and you see it and think 'I would NEVER make something that looked liked that!' Then you realize her arms are up to keep the thing on her shoulders or to hide sonme strain in the fiber or disguise that the arms are 5 inches too long, or some other craziness. I feel bad for designers sometimes. The 'stylists' do what they want with no thought to how others might react. There are many places that are absolutely respectful of the designers, but clearly not all..... So I'm ministering to the recovering here, but also getting a super education about 'reading' patterns.... win win all around.
In addition to the mass of completed items I posted photos of, I am happy to report that I will soon have an actual PAIR of socks for me!!! I am nearly at the ankle bone (toe up) of my second 'crazy sock' and the second one fits as well or better than the first. I am ecstatic to be doing something for myself. My list of projects for my daughter must have quadrupled during my stay with her! The furtherer I get, the behinder I become! hahaha

But this is evidence of great leaps of progress while in LA. The Noro tunic/dress for my daughter has part of the neck completed, half of one sleeve (not shown) and the front and back complete. I put it on her for fit and it looks fantastic. We decided to make slits in the bottom of the side seams so that when she sits, the yarns won't pull across her hips if she doesn't hike it up first. With the thick/thin yarn, it's bound to have weak spots so no sense tempting fate!

Congrats on the socks... I almost never get to do something for little ol' me. The Noro Tunic looks fantastic! --S
Thanks, again, Susan. I've finished the foot and heel now, and have started up the leg. I'll do a modeling job when they are done....

I'm absolutely ecstatic over the Noro tunic. I just love the colors. It's Silk Garden #84. If I were a rich woman, I'd make something with that yarn once a month! After taking the photo, I did another 3 inches at least of the neck. It's 12 inches high! and sort of crunches or folds down as you want it to. The sleeves are long and narrow and straight. The daughter will have this for this winter's wear. She is one happy puppy....
Your daughter should be happy... I know I would be... she is gorgeous by the way... I'm assuming she takes after you.

I have a friend I worked with who looks like a dead ringer for your daughter. I wanted to mention it before, but felt kinda funny saying that.
To be honest, she looks somewhat like I did 20 years ago. Except I think she's more beautiful. Definitely taller. But once I was as much a skinny minny as she is! haha It's great to have a 'model worthy' person to knit for. Between my daughter and the mass of grands, I can't go wrong!
Sort of like my Coopworth hand-spun yarn. Very pretty colors, and congats on the progress. Lookin' good! --P
Wow, this looks beautiful!
