I keep hearing about all these different types of heel-turning techniques. Is there a book out there that explains them ALL? I want to understand the anatomy of the sock, so I can learn to play with it and adapt it once I get the hang of it. But first, I have to get the hang of it! lol And remember, I'm just a beginner when it comes to socks... so take it easy on me. ;-)

We have an online tutorial that explains different types of heels and toes...maybe that will help!
Thanks! I just had a look, and that looks like just the info I wanted. I LOVE Nina's striped felici socks with the afterthought heels, and I think I'll try that style first. Although the short row heel looks interesting, too...
I think this is an excellent choice for a first sock.
Amanda, I'm not sure if there is one book that gives all techniques. I've looked at KP's online tutorial and it gives a good explanation of the typical sock techniques. If you search these different techniques on the internet, you should be able to find more explanation of each.

Angel Bear (angelkartu) and I just left several suggestions for simple socks under "Sock Techniques". If I come across something that is thorough in techniques I'll pass it on here.
Hi Amanda,

I suggested in the other thread that Sensational Knitted Socks is a good reference - that & the second one (More Sensational Knitted Socks) are what I refer to constantly. Not all will be in there - people keep coming up with new toes & socks - but it might be a good place to start!

Good Luck!

If you want a top down reference on numerous heels and toes try Nancy Bush's Folk Socks book. She goes over several and the history of the sock. Sensational socks is a good one and I am constantly looking in Knitting Circles around Socks when I need help when working with two circulars.
Joan, I clicked on the site you referenced and it says it is in the process of closing down. Any good substitute?
Here's that page referenced on the Wayback Machine:
Thanks, Sarah!
Hey, Joan, as long as we are able to get to it. That's all that counts. Thanks for pointing us in that direction.
