OK so I received 3 kits (gave one to a friend), did a swatch on size 3 needles and got started. Near the bottom of p. 3, 1st column of instructions, it says "Attach safety eyes to head."

Please advise source for the eyes, what size should they be, is there some more information on how to attach them? My local AC Moore only has glue-on googly eyes (and of course, buttons).

Maybe an additional "notions" kit could be made available for Sheldon.

Hi,

I got my eyes at Hobby Lobby. They only had 10 mm instead of 9 mm, but it was better than those googly eyes!

They have a plastic washer that goes on the back. Pretty simple.

Hope that helps!

Or you could embroider eyes on Sheldon with French knots. If you are giving Sheldon to a small child, that might be a safer option since there isn't anything that could potentially be detached and swallowed.

I buy the 10mm safety eyes from Hobby Lobby, too, but there are also some safety eyes available online. You can try www.etsy.com to buy materials for handmade items, or try www.crscraft.com and search for "9mm eyes". I've seen some people embroider eyes or use buttons, too! I do prefer the safety eyes, but there are a lot of options. Good luck!

oh, thank you so much, went to Etsy and ordered some pretty 9mm ones. Can't wait till I get the basic Sheldon done and get started on the pirate costume!

Hi, I am really considering making Sheldon for my son, so I started searching for the eyes before hand, cause they really did seem specific. I found this one site http://glasseyesonline.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPa... just in case any one else is looking for them...

I found the 9mm safety eyes at JoAnn Fabrics, sandwiched between beading and feathers and woodworking. They were tucked in among the pkgs of "googly eyes", so search hard for them-- they are easy to miss!

I embroidered my eyes so it would be safer for little children.
