Is the pattern for this going to be posted? (I did check the free pattern section and didn't see it there). I am wondering because it says that " no purchase necessary to join KAL". Unless the pattern will be made available I don't understand how it would be possible to join without making purchase of the kit. Unless I was a member of the group that didnt actually make the bags, or perhaps chose another bag to knit.
How can I get the pattern for the Montavilla Market Tote? This kit is still featured in the most recent Knit Picks catalog (July 2009) but is not available. How long has Knit Picks been out of the kits?
I think it's been fairly recent. You might send an email to customer service to see if the pattern will be for sale as a download anytime soon or if they intend to replenish their stock.
I know they are releasing a couple of other patterns that were recently in kits and have already sold out. Maybe this will be one they put out there for us to have access to... either free or for a nominal cost. I hope so. It is a great little project.
I finished the first tote about two weeks ago and passed it along to my gift receiver. This was a really fun bag to make, but I have to agree with a lot of the other posts. The pattern was sketchy in places and took a lot of reading and re-reading to make sure I got everything correct. Maybe a non-experienced knitter needs to help re-tool the pattern to catch some of these places that more experienced knitters would just take for granted. Overall, though, I really enjoyed getting this one together.
Someone had asked earlier what to do with the yarn as your working the basket weave. I brought my working yarn up behind the non-working yarn every row. This created a swirling effect on the side of the work that was really neat (well kept) and easy to continue along the way. However, having to continuously rearrange the yarn was entirely maddening. Any suggestions for that out there?
Jen, anytime you are working with multiple yarns, it is a challenge to keep them from tangling. Usually I take the time after every row or round to rearrange my yarn. Other than that I don't have any suggestion. Even if you keep your yarn in something like a ziploc bag, you still need to constantly rearrange your yarns. I often keep the group of yarns in some type of tray, basket or small box, but I still have to take the time to constantly rearrange.
