I am making the learn to knitt afghan from Barbara G Walker's book.  If you are familiar with it...I have 63 squares to make and each one is a different stitch..To get to my problem is that square #20 and 21 have a stitch that I can not figure out.

It says: row 6--k2*sl 3wyib, k1, insert needle from front under loose strand of row 1,and knit next st, k1; repeat from *

which needle do you insert, and when it says"and k next stitch....do they mean the strand that you pull??? I have started this square 4 x and it doesn't come out right.  I end up with 7 stitches more and a big mess.

Help me ! Help me please.

That's a really good suggestion! Looks like there's help for a lot of things there!
Just thought I would up-date you on my learn to knit afghan...I am on square 25 of 63. I may get this finished before I 'm 80!

Suggestion on putting all the square together. What would be the best am easy way? And should I wait till I finish all 63 squares?
I would wait. You may want to put them in a slightly different order when you see whether you have any size differences. I think sewing together with mattress st or ladder st works best, because you want the finished afghan to lie flat.
Got it..thanks Peggy.
You're welcome! I hope it works out OK!
I have made four or five big pieces that are 40 - 60 squares and have used difference techniques, but the way I have grown to like the best is to crochet a border around each square using the exact same number of stitched on each side (assuming that they are square pieces). You can do this prep around the suqares as you go. Then, at assembly, crochet each side together -- experiment with single crochet or slip stitches to see which look you like best. This method "frames" each square in what I think is an attractive way. It also serves to "even out" those squares which might seem a little smaller or larger than the others -- with the same muber of stitches around they seem to block themselves in the assembly. There is a picture of two of these afghans on my home page if you want to check it out.

If you want to stitch them together with a yarn needle make sure that they all block out to exactly the samesize to everything stays nice and square. And let us see how it turns out!
Or you can crochet around the blocks and then sew them together. I think Cathie's method is easier than sewing, though.
Cathie,
How do I get to your home page?

Hi Cathie,

Not sure if anyone has gotten back to you about this. To get to someone's home page, or what is their "profile" page, simply click on their picture icon :)

Hope things have gotten on track for you with this pattern!
