there are 20 great patterns in this book... which one is calling to you? I'm planning to do the "Cabled Vest". It's classy, there are no sleeves (I like no sleeves) and it's knit in DK weight yarn, which is perfect!
I think it's a good one... there are 3 other projects in it other than the one I'm knitting now that I am very interested in... now I just have to find the time (I don't usually make for myself, it's kind of fun!!!)
Sadly, I don't own this book yet either. But it is on my list. I am following because I am a large person and want to create something for myself other than mittens or throws. Thanks for starting the KAL!
Hello! I had to laugh when I saw this KAL was starting and that you were using this book. I actually placed the order for this book, and, according to Knit Picks, it's on it's way to me! Talk about timing. I'm not sure which project I'll choose, although the ones you showed in the video all look great. I'll have to decide once I have the book in front of me. So for now, just wanted to say thanks for starting a KAL for larger sized projects. We need for more designers to realize how many of us big girls are out here knitting.
So glad to hear you're joining... I've drooled over this book for quite some time... being in a KAL will encourage me to start (and finish) a sweater for me... I'm an advocate here for larger sizes, because you're right, designers forget about us!!!
Kim,
As I told you earlier, the vest you are making is something I have been looking for for months. I saw a longer version of a vest like this with cables and the ribbed binding and fell in love with it. I started to order it, but then thought, Why don't you make it instead of buying it.
I have purchased the book and found the errata this morning... located here:
If you have any advice re: this pattern I'd sure appreciate it.
Thanks for the errata link, Susan... I was in touch with the publisher and they hadn't yet posted it when I last talked to her... as far as advise, like any pattern can't stress enough about gauge... I ended up with size 5 needles, but I did several swatches to get there... so far the pattern is ok, but I've just started... I'm a cotton person, so I'm using Cotlin... Comfy Worsted would do well, it knits to the gauge but it's a little heavy for me... if you like wool, the City Tweed DK would be amazing in this sweater...
When you mentioned that you knew there was an errata but didn't know where it was, I check the publishers page... it took a bit, but I found the errata. Glad I would help. I've knit several things using both Comfy and Comfy Bulky (a shawl for ME), and really like this yarn. I will use more of it for sure.
I've heard a lot of comments about how soft the City Tweed is, so I think since this is a vest, and I will be wearing something under it, that I will tolerate the wool fine.
Don't worry, if I have learned anything here at KP, it is that when something really matters, ALWAYS swatch.
Having the KAL up and running has me enthused. Thanks for starting it.
Yeah! My book arrived in the mail yesterday! Must say Knit Picks is fast on the shipping. Some very lovely patterns in the book. I saw several that I would like to make, but the one I think I'll pick is the Cabled Bag. Perhaps sound silly with all the lovely attire patterns, but I've been wanting to try cables ( I'm sure that they are not as hard as my anxious mind has made them) and I really loved the design . I think it would be less intimidating to try the cables on a bag versus a garment. Also have to say that I'm about one size larger in the bust than the patterns and while I'm sure that I could manage to adapt the patterns, I don't really feel like doing it now, although I'm sure I will in the future. I wish that when a book of patterns is listed, the size range would always be listed. Oh well. The other book I purchased is More Big Girl Knits. Love this book and would recommend it to other big girls. Really like their down to earth approach and some of the patterns go up to a size 5X! They also explain very well how to adapt patterns to fit and flatter you body. Just thought I'd mention it as another book other knitters might like ;)
thanks so much for the info on the adapting patterns... that's really good to know... It can be disappointing when you find a cute style and then the largest size fits Twiggy (uh oh, am I dating myself?)... The purse sounds like the perfect project to start if you're learning cables - the project size isn't nearly as intimidating as say the "Cabled Vest"... If you've never tried cables I think you will be pleasantly surprised how much easier they are to make than they look... here's a link to the cables tutorial... enjoy!
Thanks for pointing the way to the tutorial! I just downloaded and printed it out. Really does help make more sense of the whole concept. Now I just have to get started on my bag.
