I too like the magic loop, but bought the Harmony double points and am almost finished the leg portion of the cable cuff socks. I love the feel of the wood in my hand, the points are so sharp, and am enjoying the new experience. It's fun to try the tried and true method. Not sure what I will do for the 8 pairs of unknit socks in my yarn basket!

I hear a lot about dpn and 2 circular needle sock knitters, but very little about the "magic loop" method, which I much prefer to either of the former. My dpns fall out of my rather loose knitting style, and my yarn tangles worse than kittens in the yarn basket with the 2 circulars, so I found my sock niche orginally with the interchangable nickels (4) on a 32' cable but have now switched to the 0 and 1 both 32" cable. I have the harmony inthe same sizes in the back of my mind as I tend to poke myself a lot as I knit. Any comments on them?

I'm working on a pair of slippers hopefully for my mom for Mother's Day. It's on dpn's and I am having a terrible time with the hole that can happen where heel flap meets gusset meets sock? You know what I mean...it's the what I call the triangle below the ankle bone. I've tried picking up extra stitches along the heel flap in hopes of filling the gap...but doesn't work. Any hints?

I finally have the time to start my socks. I have the book, I have the yarn, and have cast on. I am trying out the Going Dotty so I can do socks in double knitting. Yarn is Soxx Appeal by Knit one, Crochet Too Color 9851 and 9228. Will add photos once I have more completed.

Do you have to use patterns from the knitted socks book to participate? I like to create my own patterns with the sock wizard from Software for knitting.

Anyone know if it's possible to buy straight sz 1 needles? I like to do my cast on's with straight needles and then switch to dp's from there.

I got the book a couple of days ago and have cast on for the flip-flop socks with some self striping that I've had for quite awhile.
These are for my granddaughter (who has my narrow foot - altho a little longer). Going to try size 1 needles rather than 2's - seem to get a better stitch with fingering yarn.

I think they're going to be fun!

I am curious why you would switch to dpns now if you like using the magic loop method? I am guessing because the patterns are written for using dpns (I hate to admit it, I didn't even look at that part in the book, since I am going to knit 2 at a time on 2 circulars). Of course, it is also always good to try other methods too. The bigest issue I had using dpn's was laddering between the needles, but I think the solution is to tug the second stitch on each needle a little tighter as you knit it. I am sure someone with way more experience with dpn's can give you lots more tips and suggestions. :o)

My needles and yarn arrived today. Any suggestions on using double pointed needles? I have kniw all my socks with the magic loop technique up to now.
