We donate a lot of the items that we knit for our photo shoots and catalogs to a local school fundraiser and to local shelters. Who do you guys knit for?
I just came across this today. This is a list of charities that I thought might be useful.
Stitches from the Heart is one of the charities lists. I have received permission to scan in the information packet they sent me and post it here. Hopefully I will get that done today.
Hi Cheryl That would be wonderful!! of course . Also do let the volunteers know that the nurses tell us they love to know where the items are from (the little tags that are put on the items). If there is any thing else, please let me know.
Really appreciate your help.
Sincerely,
Kathy Silverton
p.s. I have purchased needles through Kn it Picks and I just love them. REally excellent quality.
Knit for Our Troops, Linus Project, afghans for Afghans, Warm Up America, Pink Ribbon Foundation, local halfway house, preemies. Charity knitting is a way for me to give back to our country and the world in appreciation for my many blessings, of which people top the list.
Here is what I am currently working on for charity. It is bear dress for a bear for a the local sheriffs here in Oregon. They give the bears to children when they come across a call that involves children.
I have a quick question. My 10 year old daughter knits, and she wants to do something for charity, but I don't want it to be such a big project that she'll never get it done. I heard of a charity where you can knit a nine inch square and send it away and it will be put together with other squares to make an afghan for a veteran. Does this ring a bell with anyone? If not, does anyone have any ideas for a fairly small charity project my daughter could do?
Thanks!!!
Mary, it seems like I've heard the same thing, but I can't think of the specific charity. But I know there are plenty out there that accept washcloths. Those are usually for batter women groups. Or she can do a rectangle and stitch up the sides to make a preemie hat.
Attached are some patterns I did for Save the Children last year. The square one can be done as a rectangle instead of in the round. She can use self patterning or striping yarn. I'm also attaching a simple garter stitch washcloth I did as a teaching tool.
2 wks ago, my father in law was diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung Cancer with Mets, so I decided to knit him a "cure cap". It turned out wonderful and its inspired me to make more. Another member of the KP community suggested www.knotsoflove.com, so I'm going to try to make some more hats to donate to them.
