Knitting Community

Most of my knitting lately has been sock monkeys, which started with KP's Mr. Foster (and quickly became Senor Foster). The other day I was reading an article suggesting ways to Make a Soldier Smile, by sending an upbeat letter or package, and I thought, what's more upbeat than a sock monkey? We've been having lost of fun in the Mr. Foster KAL showing where our monkeys go and the trouble they get into. What do you think? Would service men and women (especially those with kids at home) enjoy having a sock monkey to talk to, photograph, etc? I was even thinking if someone had the time and expertise (I don't!), it would be fun to have a blog where photos of soldiers' monkeys could be posted for all to see and discuss.

Thoughts?

Deb, you know you can count on me to knit monkeys. But I don't know anything about blogs. I hope someone out there will help get this started because, I, for one, think it is a wonderful idea.

Every time someone posts a new adventure, I think about that AT&T add where the little girl slips her monkey in her dad's suitcase and he takes pictures everywhere he goes.

Sounds like a great idea. I'll be happy to knit some monkeys, if you can figure out how to get them to where they need to go!!

I'm hoping someone can help us with that part of it, because I have to clue. (We don't have anyone in the service right now.)

We will find a way to get this project going.

Okay, it was early when I wrote this--I meant I have *no* clue. But I'm sure someone out there does ....

But that is the purpose of this -- to throw out ideas and try to organize a means to get this going, right? There might be others out there all ready with some of the know how or they know where we can find the info. So, let's see if anyone has any suggestions as to where to go. Maybe IBAmyB might have some suggestions since she and her hubby are down under in the service.

Yes, that's exactly the purpose of this. Think I should contact IBAmyB directly? She might not see this thread otherwise.

I was just thinking the same. She might be a really good source. I just added her to my friend list requesting she look here. You might want to do the same. She's only in the Mr. F KAL so she probably hasn't seen this discussion. She seems involved with the consulate there because that's how she gets her KP orders, through the consulate, I think I remember that correctly. So she may have some sources for us.

Thanks, I'll try that!

Oh, I think this is a great idea!!! Don't know how to go about getting things there or blogs, etc. but am willing to make more monkeys. Wendy

I don't know how to go about this, either. We had to go out of town for a funeral, and this sort of got pushed to the back burner. I may check with some folks on Ravelry and see what they think--when I get some time.

Deb,

I'm sorry to hear you had a funeral to attend.

I think that is a good idea checking with Ravelry. Someone out there has got to know something! I vaguely remember someone saying something about having a blog on the Mr. F KAL. I remember the monkey, because it was the 2nd 'SHE' monkey. Dressed in a pink sweater. It was probably in the 'share your pictures of Mr. F' discussion. I know I asked her about settiing up a blog, because I have lots of pics I'd like to post along with the little stories, but I cannot for the life of me find the info I saved about it on my computer. (Not computer literate, don't ya know?) I have some major projects coming up these next few weeks, but I'll try to see if I can find that post somewhere and let you know.

Wendy
ps. how is the 'little' monkey coming along with having a good impression made upon? I know you said your Supermonkey was shipping out sometime soon, so I hope he has been a good influence while he's been around. :o)
