Knitting Community

Hi,
We just did a big donation of scarves, hats, etc. that have been knit for catalogs to a local non-profit that helps out the homeless in our area.

Now that the weather is getting a bit chilly, it's a great time to donate any socks, hats, scarves, gloves, sweaters, or jackets you have around the house that aren't getting much use.

I think I'm going to go through my closet when I get home tonight. I know I don't like wearing the first scarf I ever knit because I see all the mistakes, but maybe it could keep someone else warm.

Great idea, Angela. It is the time of year to cull our clothing and accessories and give them a new home.

Great idea Angela:
Just a little story to tell all of you.
Every Sunday we have the same homeless person outside our church. After seeing him a few times I said to my husband we need to help him in someway without giving cash. We decided we would give Tim Horton coupons knowing there was one in the downtown area and at Christmas I knit him a scarf and toque and my husband got a heavy fleece liner from out store and we wrapped it up and gave it to him.
We all can help someone in need somehow it is just being innovative.

Tammy, I think that is wonderful. I much prefer giving coupons and items. We have a friend who carries around paper lunch bags filled with a bottle of water and a box lunch, such as an "all the fixings for a tuna lunch" or some sort of "Lunchable" to hand out to the homeless.

I like the lunch bag thing as well. I also have to go through some of my Christmas items and give those to the needy. That reminds me I have a couple of knitted items I can donate as well.
