I make ornaments every year for all the children in my son & daughter's classes. (They are in 3rd & 4th grades this year). I am trying to come up with an idea that will be quick & affordable. Does anyone has any suggestions? Thanks.

Thanks to everyone who replied with ideas. They were all great.
I decided to go with the mini sweaters. I found some holiday variegated yarn in my stash that is perfect. I already have a few finished.
Thanks again.
We are so glad we could help. I know the kids will be very happy with your choice.
Just wanted to give everyone an update.
I have completed 28 out of 47 sweaters. I have been working assembly line style on these, but decided to finish enough for one class before I started on the second class's. I will try to put up a picture of one of the finished sweaters in the next few days.
Once again, thank you for all of the wonderful ideas.
Whoa! You've been busy!
I knit something for everyone on my gift list; Mom, my children, my sister and my friends. About 20 gifts total, that's why I like something quick and easy. No sweaters or afghans on this list!
I think quick gifts can be just as appreciated as big projects.
Just wanted to let everyone know that I actually got all of the ornaments done on time. 51 is a large number even if the sweaters are very small. lol
Everyone loved them & I will try to post a pic of a finished ornament later.
I wanted to thank everyone for all of their help.
Next year I will definitely start making the class ornaments early so I won't be so rushed to finish. And I will probably turn to all of you for help in deciding what to do next! Thanks

If you don't think the recipient will be good with taking care of the gifts, I would suggest superwash yarns. There are other KP yarns that are superwashed. You just have to go with your gut feeling on this. Sometimes putting washing instructions and even including an itty bitty bottle of one of the handwashing products can help. But even the best of us accidentally felt things every now and then.

The Swish bulky knits up quickly.
