Knitting Community

By December 24, this thread will be the most beautiful collection of knitted items ever gathered.

I'm so excited at the thought of getting to finish an item and then get lots of oohs and ahhhs from people before I even wrap it. I'm even MORE excited to see what other people finish to give away!

I'll start us off, many of you have seen this one already--I finished a toilet paper cozy for my little brother and his new bride. It's a spicy tuna roll.

Susan Thanks much for the brief synopsis on that Book :))) Corny as it May Sound I Really Enjoy Reading Any & All Historical Background & Interesting Facts on Knitting/Wool/Spinning Etc ... I Noticed a Few other Ladies here quite Excited when they Happened to Stumble on How Old & How Far Back SpinninG Really Goes !! Could See & Hear their Excitement right thru the Screen !! So I for 1 Very Much Appreciate the Info & Facts !! How could AnyOne NoT be Impressed with Spinning being an Art Form Archeologists have Found World Wide going Back 10,000 Years !! CooooL Hun :)))
I completely agree. Learning the history of this art form is almost as much fun as performing it... the pre-knitting examples I have seen are truly fascinating... how they had the patience to do this with a crudely formed needle is beyond me. --S
I laugh when I hear you guys talking, but I'm also tearing up. When I was little, my mom and I got along great. Going through the teen years of course-like most moms and daughters-there was always problems. When I became a mom, it got better, then when she hit her 80's and her mind started to slip, we returned to the nicer days of my youth. My mom taught me how to sew, quilt, knit, crochet--most of the handcrafts I do today,- and gave me an appreciation of others work. Everytime I finish a quilt on an afghan I wish she was here so I could show her...Mom died about 2 1/2 years ago, and my dad this Halloween. Wish he was here too...
BUT enough of the sadness..this is a happy time.Glad to see SOOO many people finshing things..it gives one hope for the New Year! Either of you ladies have any New Year's plans? Or are you taking it easy after Santa?
I think many of us have those type of memories... And yes, I am already starting my list of 2010 projects. I actually tried to start the Ten Stitch Blanket yesterday... but have no idea if I'm doing it right...Cheryl promised to help me later today, once I get my turkey cooking! --S
Mary, my dad's been gone for well over 30 years and my mom for 13. I still wish they were here. I wish my dad had been around to see my children. I know he would have been proud to know I went back to school at 38 and managed to become a lawyer with 4 kids under tow. And I always want to show my mom my knitting. You never stop missing them. But they helped me become the person I am today so it is joyous.
I didn't finish a lot of knitting for this holiday season but I did manage to get the 3 stockings done. I need to not procrastinate on my stockings for this next year. I already have at least 7 to do. And if I want to do holiday knitting for next year I better get started soon.
And, yes, Susan will be needing help with her Ten Stitch Blanket so I better get that file open and take a peek!

Merry Christmas to All.
I for 1 Never Ever Go Out on New Years I Always Call it Amateur Night !! Wayyy too Dangerous !! People In No going out !! How about YoU ??
I'm done!! I'm done!!!
Larry's afghan is complete...finished weaving in my ends last night, and took pics in the sunlight today!!! My DH also got him a good quality heater..he doesn't have much, and the room he is stuck living in can be very cold--54 degrees yesterday morning-he's one of those folks that likes to be warm too, so he's suffereing.. I hope these 2 things help!

second pic is a closeup of the pattern..funs to make-3 different stitch patterns for variety,
Mary,
This is lovely and it looks so very warm. What a wonderful gift! --S
You do nice work, and Larry's a lucky guy!
thanks to you both. I think he'll be very happy with it-he's been through so much in the past 7 years-3 floods-one of which put his house totally underwater, he lost his business, then his home because of the water situation. The realty company made him move-his home for almost 40 years. He lived with us for around a year off and on During this time, he had throat cancer, but couldn't get treatment because he had no insurance. He is now on total diasbiility, so he's been able to see a real oncologist (mine!). He lives in one room, and barely makes ends meet..this will warm him all over.
Whenever my DH and I feel that things are getting a little rough, we know our lives could be so much harder..and that we are very blessed...
lovely afghan! warm color and look. Fabulous job and all I can say to your last sentence is Amen to that. Nothing like a bit of perspective to make you value the life you have.... I learned that, as have most of us, many times over. Happy holidays everyone!
Mary, this sends shivers up and down my spine, not because I am cold, but because you and your DH are making Christmas what Christmas is really supposed to be about.

So here is a KP wish for Larry: MERRY CHRISTMAS! How lucky you are to have Mary and her DH in your life. And how lucky they are to have someone like you.
