How many strands of fingering = worsted?

HI all, i just made a pair of felted slippers from worsted weight yarn. It was so fun! now my DD wants a pair, but of course in a day glow type of pink which i can only find in acrylic, lol. I think cosmospolitan in palette yarn from KP will work,

OOps, she just came along and chose Lady SLipper instead, LOL

So anyway, i read that palette is good for felting. But of course, it is fingering. I think i will try using 4 strands to get close to worsted. I have to work out the yardage and decide how much to order but i think i will get 4 balls... The pattern only calls for about (less than )200 yards of worsted for child slippers. I think 4 balls sounds good, right? (palette is 231 yard/ball)

anyone have advice or experience to share with me regarding something similar ? (4 strands of fingering for a worsted weight project?) Anyone use palette for felting? Kp says is is recommended.

Jenny: Four strands of fingering should be equal to one worsted. Palette does felt, but I don't know how much and how fast it felts. I know people have made the Sipalu Bag double-stranded and felted it, but slippers need to fit. You should make a gauge swatch and felt it to find out.

Thanks peggy, i surely shall swatch it to be sure!!... i will take some of my palette i already have and try it, to get a good yardage estimate.

Jenny, You might also look at WotA (Wool of the Andes)... is has some pinkish reds, too... and it is a great felting yarn...

Thanks susan, she did not see any pinks she likes there - however, my husband chose orange and onyx from wotA for his clog slippers :o) I have swatched wotA and sampled and am ready to go, as soon as my colors come!

I usually do 2 strands of fingering to equal worsted (such as wool of the Andes) and it felts up beautifully. If you are doing slippers 4 strands of fingering should work beautifully. I have taken to mostly felting the palette over WOTA because it seems to make the stitches disappear when felted.

OH thank you so much, this is awesome to hear. I do love wotA very much, but palette has so many more glorious colors, i might use it more often to make some really bright happy slippers and toys and stuff. (i am, actually knitting a praying mantis in a really pretty springy green sock yarn...)

I wonder how it would look with 2 different colors of palette knitted together, then felted. Have you tried that? i will have to do a test bit.

I have mixed colors and they do well - if you did 3 strands of 1 color and 1 of another that would give a bit of texture, or you could do 2 of each. Both work really well.
