I'm planning on buying two kits and upsizing the pattern for my twins. They're 2 years old, but on the small size so 18-24 months would fit them but I want the sweaters to last for a year. I'm an advanced knitter and am pretty confident I can do the math to make the sweaters bigger.

However, I don't really have any idea of how much extra yarn I would need. I read that there is not much leeway in the kits with the yarn in the largest size. Has anyone tried making these bigger? I'm thinking I probably just need a ball or two in the main color as I would keep the strip sequences the same.

Or should I just get two kits for each kid and plan on having leftovers?

Any advice?

Nina answered your question for me in the above blog post when the KAL for Kids was just beginning. Check out her comments on the first page of comments to her blog post. I have twin girls who soon will be four. I'm definitely needing a larger size for them. I'm going to wait until the pattern is available on its own. I'm making something for them now which will take care of this summer...
Thanks Marta! I had skimmed the first two pages but I missed it!
Glad to help. The information was in her blog rather than in the KAL intro, so I thought you might easily have missed it. I'd love to know how you end up dealing with the upsizing. I may have to alter the color patterns somewhat to satisfy my little fashionistas!
