Can someone please tell me the format of the charts for the colourwork kits. Do they use symbols or colours or both? Thanks in advance.

The charts in my Dogwood Blossoms Sweater kit are all just colors. I haven't done any other colorwork, so I don't know if that is true for all kits. In this pattern, it is hard to distinguish some of the colors.
Some patterns have colors only; some have symbols only; and some have both.  I wish there was a real standard, but there isn't,
Thanks for the information. I'm colour blind so i guess i am going to have to get someone to rewrite them for me with symbols or something.
Yes, that's something I never thought of.  Is it a KP pattern?  You should write the designer/publisher and make them aware that you and very possibly other knitters are colorblind too.  Now that there is knitting chart software there is no excuse for not putting symbols in a pattern chart.
Symbols could help all of us since some of the colors are so hard to tell apart on the chart.
I am used to symbols as I used to cross stitch a lot and these charts usualy are either symbol based or have both. I will email and make this point if others are finding it difficult to follow the patterns too.
I agree.  I have had the same problem with, knitting, needlework and beading charts.
Lynsey, I just saw your question over in another thread and sent a message to KP customer service. Hopefully they will be able to help you.
I'm not color blind, but I prefer the symbols, too. I need a lot of light to tell the difference between some shades of colors that are really close. My Ott Lite helps, but it's so much easier to keep balls of yarn with their labels and then put the symbol on the labels!
