Hi all,

I'm extremely late to this party, but better late than never.  This is my first cardigan, and it seems to be going fairly well.  I've completed the body up to where the sleeves are set in, and I'm just starting my first sleeve doing the Magic Loop (which, BTW, I just taught myself yesterday)!

So my question is....on the body, I carried the accent yarn up behind the steek stitches.  Should I/can I carry the accent color up the sleeves too?

Thanks for your help,

Debra

Yes that is what I did with my original sleeves.  I have to restart, didn't gauge correctly, lol.  Anyway, I twisted the accent yarn with the main color every couple of rows behind the knitting as I went up so that there would not be any loops to hook my fingers into etc...  Janet

Thanks for the info - I figured that I could, just wanted to know if there was something I was missing since it doesn't specifically say to carry the accent yarn in the directions.  Here we go...wish me luck!
You'll do fine.  And happy knitting!
I started late too (last summer) and did the body first...all went pretty well. I am using 2 dark purple yarns, one a baby alpaca and one a lace merino. I did one of the sleeves on dpn's and set it aside to do the other one. One day last week, I discovered that some how, I had used only the merino on the lower half of the first sleeve, How many times did I have that in my hands and measure it and look at it? Last night I started it over and am knitting right off the goofed up one instead of unraveling the whole thing. I hope I have sense enough to stop when I get to the all merino part! Oh, well, I have enjoyed the magic loop, so this is just more opportunity to perfect that method. I am very anxious about attaching the sleeves but everyone on this site is so kind and helpful and they have promised to help me bumble through;-).   vk   Good luck with yours!
Yup, rather than unraveling the whole sweater, I am going to knit from the one that is wrong.  Save me some time, lol.  Janet
Would there be a way that you can put a safety pin or some type of stitch marker where the all merino part is???  This should probably stop you in time so that you can get situated!  Jaent
Yes, carry it up the underarm exactly the same way to did on the body of the sweater.  Good luck.
I did both my sleeves on one magic loop, carrying the accent yarn up the underarm. I just put them on holders today, and am starting the body now. I've had a little trouble with laddering on the sleeves, but plan to stitch the gap once I've blocked them.
I bet that once you wash and block, you may not have too much laddering.  I usually have a little laddering on my socks, but once I have blocked them, the laddering seems to disappear.  Did you have to change the length of sleeve from what the pattern called for????  I think I will but I need to know where the underarm of a raglan sweater should hit when you join the sleeve to the body.
From what I've been reading in other posts, people who made the sleeves longer because they were afraid they'd be too short decided they shouldn't have when the sweater was finished. I'm making it somewhat oversized, am following the largest directions, which say to put the sleeves on holders at 15 1/2 inches. I went a little over that in order to have my first row joining a stripe row, to have the extra strength of the 3rd strand and the ease of remembering where I was in the pattern. Your comment is exactly why I'm planning to block first, in the hopes that I'll end up with less (or no) extra work to do. Also, just to keep life interesting, my 87 year old mother pitched a pillow at me a couple of days ago, and knocked a cup of coffee into my knitting bag with the sleeves and yarn, so I've got to wash them out now that they're on holders. I could have screamed, but she actually apologized when she saw the damage she'd caused.
