I'm ready to steek but I am concerned the cut line might be off center. Can anyone tell me if the cut line is supposed to be in the exact center front? If so, I will redo my backstitching, because I think the present cut line is about 6 stitches off center. Thanks for any help.

Fran, I haven't done this, but if no one else answers you, I'll try to get someone who can.
I recently did the classic lines cardigan from this site and we marked the steek when we started. I am certain that you would want your cut line dead center unless it is some kind of asymetrical design. Take it to a knitting expert for help to determine if you are off. Maybe you can count your stitches (vertical). good luck

Virginia's answer was correct.  It should be center front.  If you knitted in a specific steek section (pattern) of stitches, you may need to settle for an asymetrical sweater (which, by the way, is all the rage!).  If not, then you can just move your steek stitches to the center of the sweater.

Good luck!

Thank you for your replies! I feel more confident to pull out the scissors. Part of my mistake was thinking the steek marker was the same as the cut line. Again, thank you all!
Ah, yes, that can be confusing.  The steek stitches are set off by a marker at the beginning (and, sometimes, the end).  The cut line would be the middle of that steek section.  Glad you were able to get a handle on it.
