Hi everyone -- all of your sweaters are beautiful!!! I have picked out my wool but I can't find the needles I need -- the pattern said 32" circular or straight - size 5 (3.75 mm) but I can't find them in the catalogue...I would appreciate any advice you can give me -- thanks!
Robin, it sounds like maybe you were casting on with your tail instead of your working yarn. Does that make sense to you? Since I haven't started this project yet, I'm going to have to defer to others to tell you whether or not they think you can just turn it around and go from there or whether you need to recast on. Many of the knitters have used the magic loop to knit the sleeves, but they can also be done on DPNs.
Let me know if I can try to help you further. I'm hoping someone else will jump in here also.
Cheryl, I had replied to you that I thought I'd just use DPNs and didn't know the magic loop method. Then I got adventurous and went into the discussion about magic loop and noticed you had a couple places to look to see this method done and wahlah! I cancelled my reply and here's my new one. I do believe that I will try the ML method and see what happens. It's funny that I've knit since I was a kid and have self taught myself different techniques, but now I have been challenged. This is always good at keeping the mind working I'm sure. And I really am enjoying the ability to get help on this website. I'd like to try the Christmas ornament knitalong, but maybe one to start with is enough. Thanks for your quick help, Robin
Robin, I'm glad I have encouraged you to use a new technique.
I heard recently (and I don't think it was here in any of these KALs though it could have been here) that people who knit have a lower incidence of Alzheimer's. So keep on learning new techniques.
I was wondering if the contrast strand disappears on part of the row or if it's supposed to show on all the stitches. My contrast color will show for 8 or 9 stitches then disappear for a few stitches than it'll show again for a few. If that's how it's supposed to look than I'll continue but if there's a way to hold the strands that keeps the contrast from disappearing I'm all ears. The weight of this yarn is making the knitting progress slow, however I really like the fact it's not bulky like usual when a worsted weight is used. Thanks, Robin
Angel, Thanks for the reassurance. I sat there wondering if I should take it out and try again. I didn't, though. I have found after investigation that you can "make" the yarn show. When you are knitting the contrast row off your needles, have the contrast yarn setting on the left or underneath the main strands before you knit the stitch off. Now that should tell you something about me! Who wants to do that for an entire sweater? I decided to let it go and let it come out as it will. Robin
