Hi everyone -- all of your sweaters are beautiful!!! I have picked out my wool but I can't find the needles I need -- the pattern said 32" circular or straight - size 5 (3.75 mm) but I can't find them in the catalogue...I would appreciate any advice you can give me -- thanks!

Deb, you could get an interchangeable cable with US 5 tips.

You may also want to get a size 4 and 6 too, just in case a five won't work with your guage. This is a really fun project to make!

Good idea!

Or just get the whole interchangeable set. I mean you'll eventually need the other sizes. :)

That's true, but if cost is a matter, you can always build up your set slowly. And, of course, Deb, there are other brands out there. We like to stay loyal to Knit Picks but sometimes we do shop elsewhere and I think KP is very understanding of that.

Hi Deb,
I think cherylbwaters is right, if you're not ready to invest in a whole set, a couple of tips and a pair of cables is probably the best way to go. I think it'd be hard to knit this sweater on straights or DPNs unless you already love knitting that way.

You can find the tips here- http://www.knitpicks.com/needles/Interchangeable_Circular_Knitting_...

And if you're on a budget and not in a hurry to get started right away, the new Zephyrs will be even more affordable and they'll be available in early August. :)

And impossible with regular straight needles, unless you changed the pattern and made it with seams. --P

Another beginner question. How do you knit sleeves (one at a time--I'm very linear) on a 32" cable? Seems like the sleeve will be too narrow to join the stiches on a large cable. My wool is lovely, and my harmony wood tips are very cool, but I feel like I'm missing something! Thanks.

You would have to be using the magic loop method. They can be knit on a smaller cable or on dpns.

Never tried that. Since I've never tired steeking or knitting a cardigan, I don't think I'll add magic loop to all the things I've never done. Think I'll stick with dpns. Thanks!

Elizabeth, nothing wrong on taking one step at a time!

I'm sure I'll have more questions as I go along -- stay tuned, please!!
