I would love to knit the great american afghan. The one that has every block designed by famous knitters/designers. I think if everyone were to knit one block a month , the same block, it would be fun and helpful to any of us who might need it. We could start with the first block featured in the book as block one and then at the end of every month move onto the next one in order of the book. With the wonderful worsted weight from knitpicks the variations for this afghan is limitless!!!:)
I'd love to be involved in a knit-a-long where the participants really did knit the same or very similar thing at the same time. So a named and timed project - like doing a square of the Great American Afghan every month - would be a fabulous idea. I'd like to be able to get support when I need it and to give support when I can. That's the true purpose of a knit-a-long, as far as I understand it, but in my experience knit-a-longs tend to be more loosely organized, which is good too, but different.
So - my long winded way of saying YES! to doing a square a month of an afghan - Great American, Great North American, Great American Aran, whatever.
I just started looking at The Great American Aran Afghan Book and would like to start this after the holidays. I think it would be great to use Bare WOTA, perhaps Superwash. This is really an heirloom project and I can see it taking a long time to complete because other projects sometimes have to take priority. I have found the book for $12.80 + $1.50 S&H and am really trying hard not to order it right now!!!
I like the knitalong concept and also don't mind the using of a book to do it but when I wanted to do sweater or shawl I have to wait for the book to come, then review and then order. I really liked the sock one where I could review and pick everything out and order all at once.
