I have purchased the Holiday Lace sock patterns off the website as a download. The pattern calls for using double points, but I use the Magic Loop method. The problem I am having is with the chart. I begin with the correct number of stitches on my needles, but when I work the chart, it doesn't work right. I either end up with 1 less or 1 more stitch on my two needles. I know how to do YO, SSK, and K2tog...because I have been knitting for years, but have never used a chart to knit a pattern. Is there something wrong with the chart? Am I supposed to end with "knit 3" and begin the pattern again with "knit 3" on row 4? I have started these over 3 times already and am really frustrated. I hope someone can help me! Thanks!

Hi KnitChick1967

Which pattern are you doing? (the Hollyberry or the Candy Cane) Looking at the charts, they seem fine to me. You will be repeating each chart row 6 times for the smaller version, 8 times for the larger across the the 48 or 64 stitches. But let me know which design you are doing & I will try to assist you!

I am working on the Hollyberry chart. I have 32 stitches on each needle. For the YO, do you bring the yarn forward and knit one stitch then do the SSK? That's what I have been doing and the pattern is not working out right. I end up with either one less or one more stitch and it doesn't end with a knit stitch when I am working it. It seems like it would increase with the YO and then decrease with the SSK and K2tog, and I shouldn't end up with more or less stitches. I never have worked a pattern from a chart before...so I am assuming I am not reading something right. Thank you for your help!

Hi Knitchick!

Nope, you will not be doing a stitch after the YO - you'll bring the yarn forward, then do the decrease - that is what creates the design :) You'll have a lovely little hollyberry show up!

Something that helps me when knitting from charts is placing markers on your needles after every repeat (so every 8 stitches in this case) - this will help keep track of your knitting, & you'll know right away if you've made an error - you should always have 8 stitches between the markers.

I hope this helps!

Hello!
I am working on the amigurumi family kit. They are absolutely adorable and I know that my 2 1/2yo niece will enjoy them. My question is about the dolls' hair: when embroidering/sewing on the hair, how far down the back of the doll's head should I go? Should I outline a "normal" hairline, ie, down to the nape of the neck, or should I only put the hair where the yarn color changes? TIA!

I'm working on the East meets West bag and I'm stuck where the strap widens out with the short rows. . I am having trouble getting the instructions pictured in my head. It says to start the short row strap design 45 stitches from the first marker. I don't understand what pattern is used on the 45 stitches and do you pick up the stitches on each side of the "bottom" design to continue knitting the strap design so that the short row design lookes like it's been "inserted" in the strap design? I'd appreciate any/all advice. Thanks, Pat

I don't have a customer service problem, just a question about a pattern I purchased, "2-Needle Fingerless Gloves." I've never made a thumb gusset before and am unsure what increases to use. The pattern simply states that I am to "sl marker, inc 1 st, knit to within 1 st of second marker, inc 1 st. . ." Any suggestions?

Thanks very much,
Kristen

Hi Kristen,

With that pattern, we used the M1 instructions - here's a tutorial on it if you need it!

I recently recieved my Craftsman Afghan kit, and began working on it immediately (of course). I love it. The rosy colorway is so beautiful, and the construction is very interesting and unique. I'm having lots of fun with it, and of course looking forward to curling up under it when I'm done.

I do have a question, though. Is there any possibility of the Craftsman Afghan being offered in any other colorways? Or could you suggest one? I would love to make it in a blue / green sort of tropical colorway, or even in a neutral earth-toned one. The pattern is so versatile! I would most prefer new colorways being offered in kit form (for the sake of my budget, alas), but just a list of colors would be good too.

Hi Jenny,

At this time, we won't be releasing the pattern in any other colorways - once the kit sells out, we will more than likely release the pattern by itself. However, I think this patten is easy to substitute colors - I'm suggestion is to keep the neutral (Sandstrom, Fedora & Natural) and substituting the other colors (Woodlands Heather, Hollyberry,
Mulled Wine) for the colors you like - for blue/green tones, maybe Aquatic,Fern & Aegean. For neutral, maybe Tiramisu, Black, & Black Forest & mix & match with the other three neutrals (Sandstrom, Fedora & Natural)

hope this helps!
